Best Indian food west of India! I love Indian food, cook it myself and have lived in India for a while. I appreciate it, when the food is authentic, fresh, neither overspiced nor watered down for American taste. This is definitely the most authentic and best Indian food in L.A. Great seating, wonderful service. Unfortunately I live an hour away, but will have lunch there every time I am in Beverly Hills.
The restaurant it self is beautiful and a place that you want to hang out BUT if it was not so dead!! It is in a wrong location. I mean you would say to yourself that what was the owner was thinking??! They could be very more successful if their management was better! The manager sits at the bar and eats his Mexican burrito while guests are being served there. I mean after all it is a Indian restaurant and if the food is so good why don’t you eat it?! I want some of that burrito that you eating LOL.
I ordered a dish and it did not taste good, I sent it back to kitchen and asked for another dish, I did not even ask the server to take it off the tab; the manager came back with the dish in his hand trying to tell me well this is what you ordered right? I told him I did not like it and I need something else. I was willing to pay for the dish that I did not like but him brining the dish back to my face was very unprofessional, specially in a “fine dining restaurant”. I felt bad for the server because she was very nice and she was embarrassed for the manager behaviors .Do not get me wrong after all I did pay for the dish because he did not even tried to offer me to take it out of my tab! A dish that I did not like and touched!
I checked the location in Irvine and it was great, the manager he was very in control of the place and obviously his restaurant was running just fine!
I went to Chakra last week for my sister's birthday. The decor is quite impressive and we were looking forward to our dining experience. My sister and mom ordered some of the specialty drinks which are color based (supposed to be based on your chakra) and my father and I ordered beers. Needless to say, the specialty drinks were nothing special and our beers didn't come for a good 20 minutes and not until we flagged down the manager (since the waitress was no where to be seen) and asked for them. In addition, it wasn't until the manager went back to get the beer were we told that one of the beers we ordered wasn't available.
We proceeded to order some appetizers and our main entrees. The tandoori platter was just average. As for the main entrees, we ordered a mix of traditional dishes as well as some of their fusion creations. There really were no “great” dishes. In addition, my father and I ordered Taj Mahal’s for dinner. Again, it took forever and we were told that this beer wasn't available. I have a hard time understanding how an Indian restaurant is out of Indian beer. We finally ordered a beer that was available but it wasn't delivered until after we had finished our entrees which we promptly sent back.
At this point, we really were no longer interested in sampling any of the desserts. Given the service and the quality of food, the price is simply ridiculous. I suggest going for a round of drinks to experience the decor but find another place to dine that has better service and food.
