Description

A melange of classic Japanese traditions meet European influences not only in the name of this restaurant, but also in its cuisine and interiors. With a popular branch in Chicago and another budding sister concern in Las Vegas, Japonais Restaurant & Lounge is expanding with increasing recognition. Apart from the regular French and Japanese delicacies on the menu, there is also an eclectic range of Sushi and sashimi items to gorge on. Be sure to book your table in advance.

A little pricey but worth it! Open air seating is great!

portions are way too small for the price; food is good but you will leave there hungry...

The decor is really what is worth mentioning for this nouvelle Japanese restaurant. During pleasant weather the wall facing the street fully opens to admit pleasant breezes

Very good sushi but a little on the pricey side compared to others I've patroned.

"If I could, I would make this restaurant the ONLY sushi restaurant I would eat at. DELICIOUS meals, drinks and great atmosphere. There's always a pretty good scene at the bar area and lots of low couches and tables for lounging and cocktailing. We never have a bad time here, although the service is a bit slow."

"Style definitely trumps substance here. The food is fine, but nothing special, and far from authentic (for any of the countries it draws from). This sort of thing may fool the folks in Chicago, where it originally hails from, but New Yorkers demand more from their food. "

"Consistently good, consistently interesting. Japonese for the asian shy is how I'd put it. Not too foreign, if you know what I mean. Outtatowners love it for the New York feel and the safe delivery."

I've been to the Japonais in Chicago and it was much better. You could be better off at any of the hundreds of sushi spots in NY.

"Wonderful small portions of main dishes. I'm not a Sushi eater, but the Kobe beef entree was perfect."
