I went to Poona Indian restaurant at the Club Dr, Duluth location a month or so ago. I enjoyed the food, great taste. I am sorry to share that the customer service there is extremely poor. It is written outside “hot naan brought to the table”. To my dismay even after asking for a naan, it was served well after 15 mins. by the time I had already done with my food. I expressed my dissatisfaction and indicated on the receipt as “Bad Service”. I again visited the place today thinking that I may have being in a hurry last time. I requested for a naan / roti even before going to the buffer counter thinking that this time I will get it in time. After 6 mins, the waiter comes to my table says that the roti will take a few mins, to which I said it’s fine. To my utter surprise it was served after I finished my dishs and left the place in utter disgust. I stress again the food is good here but the place gets a double zero (00) for customer service. I vow never again to visit this place I will never recommend to friends this place.
Went to Poona restaurant for Saturday lunch buffet. The price is $9.95/person.
This is a nice restaurant. We got seated at a table that had half bench seat and other half chairs. The chairs looked nice and padded but when you sat in it the padding gave way and it felt like you were sitting on top of an open box. But, this review is not about the furniture but the food.
The selections were limited. A few salad ingredients, a couple desserts, Basmati rice, another rice dish, and 8-10 different entrees.
My Indian cuisine knowledge is limited to my sister's Chicken Tikki Masala, which I love. So, if you asked me what I ate and if I can recollect the name I'd have to say no but I decided to be adventurous and try a little of each and go back to the ones that tasted the best. I thought, OK there would be 1 or 2 that I'd probably like. But, they all tasted so good and the only thing that tasted different was the goat curry, which had that gamey goat taste but it was my favorite dish. So, off I went to get a bigger helping of everything. The food though spicy, wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be (which is a good thing).
The waiter was a delight and super friendly. He seemed to be away when you didn't need him around but was there when you felt you needed more nan bread or water.
Overall, it was a nice lunch. Though, my nephew kept reminding me of the ' 5 Days' a quote from the funny show 'Outsourced' which kept me wondering if it was worth the hassle to try the cuisine but everything was well worth it.
It was an amazing dinner at this restaurant. Me and my girlfriend tried it for the first time, and we love everything about it.
The food is really good and it has a good variety. If you love meat, their lamb is amazing. And for vegetarians its like heaven.
Even though personnel was no a lot, their service was kind and on time. They even offered us with free desert because they knew we would love to try it.
If your are a fancy restaurant type of person, don't expect that here. But don't let the outside fool you.
The Food: The food tastes great. Dinner items are prepared to your request of spiciness. There is a lunch buffet m-f, which also has good food, and includes fresh naan served to your table. The Indian beer, which comes direct from the U.K., is great, but way too expensive. They don't have bottled water. Try the flan or the rice desserts - they are delicious.
Atmosphere: Carpet, padded seats, tablecloths. It has the appearance of fine dining, but there are food stains all over - it appears very unsanitary, which I believe is the main reason many people stay away. It is recommended you bring a sanitary wipe for your fork if you are squeamish.
Service: An old Indian guy with red hair who speaks very little English serves lunch. Don't expect rush service if you're in a hurry. You have to ask several times for the buffet items to be replenished if you come for a late lunch, but eventually you just give up. Better service for dinner, although the manager has been seen wiping his sweaty brow with a fifty dollar bill.
Recommended: If you can get past the dirty tableware and seats, you will love the food.

MUST SEE place...
Not impressed. We've been looking for a good Indian restaurant in the area and thought we would try this. The food came out quickly, and it wasn't BAD. It just wasn't good! We tried the chicken tikka masala and found it a bit runny, and the saag paneer was not very spinach-y and didn't have good spice flavors (in our opinion).
I've been goin to poona restaurant for a while, been a loyal customer because of the quality of food and friendly staff. When I last went there, the place was packed and everyone seemed to be enjoying their dinner. I recall people sitting next to our table licking their figures with the chicken curry (i think it was chicken tikka masala) and giving compliments to the chef. It gets crazy sometimes when its busy, but its all worth it. I absolutely Love the Food they offer, it is soo delicious that I crave for it all the time. The ambience is very pleasant and classy. and the staff is really friendly - by now I know them really well. I give it a 5 for overall review, and would go there anytime I feel like eating Indian.
I recall dining at the first Poona restaurant on the other side of Interstate 85 many years ago and I have fond memories of the experience. I will start with the negatives. First, my wife and I were seated in a very drafty area of the restaurant. My advice in the cold weather is to sit as far away from the door as possible. The service was sporadic and slow at times. The noise level would have been tolerable if it weren't for four geekazoid Indians with constantly ringing cell phones and Bluetooths. They were hooting and hollering like little school girlies with absolutely no regard for any of the other patrons in the restaurant. Though we did not see any alcohol on the menu, they had Heinekens on their table.
Now for the food. All of the items we sampled were excellent. The paneer masala dish, though tasty lacked a decent portion size. The garlic/onion naan came out cold and the cheese naan, while flavorful appeared to be covered with an unmelted shredded Kraft product. The rice with peas as well as the stuffed parantha, vegetable samosas, papadum, fried onion and vegetable fritters were outstanding.
Please take the average rating that I gave Poona with a grain of basmati. All of the food was very good to excellent but portion size, service and ambience brought the rating down. Safe to say this Poona location is perfect for take out but needs work as a dine-in Indian restaurant. I look forward to giving Poona another try.
At my first visit, the service was slow b/c they were understaff but after a few visit the service was much better and staff are kind and generous. Poona serves your typical and general menu of indian cuisines. One of the great things I love about poona's menu is the choice to share dinner for 2 at a set price. Their lunch menu is also great. It's limited but deliciously appetizing.
Poona Indian Restaurant located in Duluth Ga.At first glance the restaurant was nicely decorated, clean, bright and not overcrowded. The wait staff was friendly, but also many of the members couldn't understand english completely.a glance over the menu revealed excessively high prices for an average resteraunt. Some of the food items came out cold and the portions were quite scanty for the price. The food items were good.An average Indian resteraunt.I liked how the waitresses wore Indian atire rather then uniforms, and it did seem very comfortable.I reccomend one go there for the lunch buffet for the more affordable price.Dinner can be quite stiff and do a major dent on the budget.Overall a decent experience.
