Quiet place with lively taste.
One Mean Bean was the first coffee shop I went to in Dubuque and its still my favorite.
The prices seem equal to others in the area while the selection and flavor is better. The couple who owns it seem to know a lot about their product and the process. The interior, inside a mansion, is cozy, warm, and welcoming. They serve great spiced chai and all of their milk drinks are available with the Silk brand soy milk. While they could do well to be open past 10 pm some nights, it has always been a good experience.
Wireless internet, newspapers on hand, news channels streaming, and a little cafe music finish off the warm and fuzzy feelings. The arched and crown-molded ceiling give the small place character. In warmer weather we like to take our coffee outside to the euro seating.
