Yesterday was my husband's birthday. When asked where he would like to celebrate it, he didn't hesitate; he chose Abuelo's. It is one of our favorites. We were not disappointed. From the shrimp cocktail appitizer, through the entree (his steak, grilled to perfection, mine the enchilltas) to the wonderful cheesecake for our dessert. The waiter was excellent and took care of our every need. The price is good, especially for the portion we received and the atmosphere is wonderful. The was not our first time, nor will it be our last.
I blindly picked this restaurant from our hotel's list of nearby eating establishments & was disappointed. To my fellow vegetarians, you won't find much to eat here.
Food opinions are subjective, so I suggest looking at their online menu before going. My carnivore husband liked the chicken & shrimp platter.
Clean * Pleasant/attentive staff * Clean bathrooms * Good location * Tasty guacamole
Both types of beans contain bacon * Did not like the margarita * Did not like the salsa
This is the kind of Mexican Restaurant people drive for miles for. The food is better than any I have had anywhere, the ambiance is wonderful and the prices were very reasonable for what you get. A little out of the way, but more than worth looking for.
This is by far the best authentic Mexican food I've ever eaten. We like Elsa's and El Rancho Grande, but Abuelo's blows them both out of the water. They have generous portions that always fill-up my bottomless pit hubby. I have never had a bad experience w/ the food. The tres leches cake is to die for and they have an awesome drink called the Swirl--you've gotta try it. The ambiance is casual, yet old Mexican style romantic. A+.
My wife and I are from Texas and trying to find a decent Mexican food place around here has driven us nuts. A few smaller restaurants have been pretty good but this is hands down the best. Real food, good size portions for even a pig like me, fantastic food, nice service and atmosphere every time we have been there and the price is affordable.
If you like REAL guacamole then you have to go here and get some of their homemade version, you will not be disappointed! We have been there repeatedly before and will be there again tonight, just be ready for it to be crowded with those who have discovered it already.
