I patronized the the playa azul in augusta ks. No utensil, no plates and the food was awful. This is a bad joke played on people who expect decent food for the price. No flavor at all. I suggest bypassing this place and go to taco bell. At least taco bell uses spices. Awful, awful, awful.

My husband and I ate at Playa Azul on 8-7-11 for the first time. It was also our anniversary. We normally go to Monterrey but as time passes we have felt it's not the value it used to be; once La Mesa shut down it was as though Monterrey started to slip. Prices up, nothing else up. We just randomly decided, let's try Playa Azul on 21st. We walked in an hour before closing and a nice server suggested something he thought we would like. (I wish I had gotten his name but the table behind us had loud people and I could barely hear anything he said thanks to their drunkenness!) He congratulated us on our anniversary also. He suggested the Jalisco plate for us and we loved it, it tasted very fresh. It was the biggest plate of food I've ever seen! We ordered two margaritas, he made them for us and said he made them special for our anniversary. These were the most delicious margaritas we have ever had anywhere! And cheap, too, that's the surprise. I've had margaritas at various restaurants (including watery expensive ones from Texas Roadhouse) and before these, Monterrey's were our favorites. We have a new favorite margarita place now. He also gave us a free dessert for our anniversary, which was surprising and nice and we really appreciated it! The sopaipillas were fresh, hot, and delicious. I don't understand anyone saying the chips and salsa are a disappointment; we've eaten at so many mexican restaurants around here and I would rate these as right up there with anyone else's. We were made to feel welcome, the food was great, and we can't wait to go back. I've told everyone about them and have made a few new converts recently!

I have really liked eating at Playa Azul. I also like the lighter chips and salsa, the tacos, burritos and a couple of the fish dishes. All my meals here have been served warm and were tasty. The last time I ate at On the Border it took 50 minutes to get our food on a not-so-busy-afternoon, 2 of the 6 of us had our order screwed up, the wait staff was awful. It wasn't the first bad experience there. I can't make myself go back. Thank goodness for Playa Azul!

I need to first state that I am from Texas and know Mexican food VERY well. I have ate at three different Playa Azul Restaurants. Wichita, El Dorado, and Augusta respectively. My first impresssion of the places are typical bright colors that you may see in Mexican food places. Lots of bright yellows, reds, blues, etc... A pretty nice place visually. 4 STAR Then the Chips and Salsa. For me the chips and salsa set the tone for the meal. I have to say that I am NOT a fan of their salsa at all. There are no chunks in it. You can't see anything that looks like chunks of tomato, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, or garlic. Literally it looks like tomato sauce from a can with powdered spices added. To sum their sauce up, it tasted like Mexican spaghetti sauce. I would rate the sauce a 1 STAR. It just isn't very good in my honest opinion. The food when delivered was about average. It was hot and for my taste a little bland. I admit that I like my food pretty spicey and probably more than most, so I take that into consideration that they are probably making it for the average person. I would rate the food at a 3 STAR Overall I would give Playa Azul a 3 STAR rating. Food is decent atmospher is nice, but the chips and salsa fall FLAT. If I had to choose a place in Wichita to eat Mexican it would actually be Abuelo's. Their first location is located in my home town of Lubbock,TX and they are a sure thing every meal.

Myself and a few friends ate there this past Friday night. Excellent service, but the food was cold and very, very salty. There was so much salt in the food that the next morning, I woke up with a sore throat and was drinking gallons of water all morning. Finally at the end of the day, my body felt better. I'm really surprised that my kidneys didn't shut down from the amount of salt that was in the food. Plus, there is very small portions of food. The atmosphere was nice and cheerful. Would I go there again? Probably not. There is a lot better Mexican restaurants in Wichita that have better food that don't use all the salt this restaurant does.

Been only twice, had the Chile Verde the first time and it was awesome. If ya like hot spicy green chile pork, yum yum yummy. And today I had the #18 combo dinner, 1 burrito and 1 enchilada, beef and chicken. This was delicious also, the rice is very good too. The chips and sauce are not my favorite but otherwise is an excellent Mexican restaurant. --WAYNERD

I love Playa Azul, great for authentic Mexican food and has fast, friendly waiters. The location in Wichita is the only I have been to, but it's clean, albeit a bit noisey at night, but it is in a bar area, so it's understandable. I have never had a bad experience. Also has good vegetarian food and many options.
