I need to first state that I am from Texas and know Mexican food VERY well.
I have ate at three different Playa Azul Restaurants. Wichita, El Dorado, and Augusta respectively.
My first impresssion of the places are typical bright colors that you may see in Mexican food places. Lots of bright yellows, reds, blues, etc... A pretty nice place visually. 4 STAR
Then the Chips and Salsa. For me the chips and salsa set the tone for the meal. I have to say that I am NOT a fan of their salsa at all. There are no chunks in it. You can't see anything that looks like chunks of tomato, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, or garlic. Literally it looks like tomato sauce from a can with powdered spices added. To sum their sauce up, it tasted like Mexican spaghetti sauce. I would rate the sauce a 1 STAR. It just isn't very good in my honest opinion.
The food when delivered was about average. It was hot and for my taste a little bland. I admit that I like my food pretty spicey and probably more than most, so I take that into consideration that they are probably making it for the average person. I would rate the food at a 3 STAR
Overall I would give Playa Azul a 3 STAR rating. Food is decent atmospher is nice, but the chips and salsa fall FLAT.
If I had to choose a place in Wichita to eat Mexican it would actually be Abuelo's. Their first location is located in my home town of Lubbock,TX and they are a sure thing every meal.
