While visiting Santa Cruz with friends and celebrating my wife s 60th Birthday, we decided to give this place a try for some fresh seafood. We had our choices of several other places that we ve tried, and they were excellent places to eat. But, I convinced everyone to try Johnny s because I read somewhere that it was the place to go. For starters, my wife and I decided we both wanted the scallops. Well, after 10 minutes, the waiter comes back and tells us they were out of scallops. So we looked at the menu and ordered something else. My friend s wife ordered a cod meal wrapped in foil. When she got it, there was nothing but grated carrots and cabbage in some juice. We immediately told the waiter, and he took the meal away. He came back with it and told us that the fish was on the bottom! Well, all four of us looked at it, and there was no cod to be found! They refused to fix the meal. We couldnt believe it! After that, the mood was why did we come here? Anyway, my friend s wife ate her salad and parts of our meals (which were overpriced) and we all ordered dessert which was strawberry shortcake. The dessert seemed like it was 3 days old or more. The cake part was so hard, we had to cut it with a knife. Needless to say, no one finished the meal. It was a bad experience, and we will never go back. There are too many great restaurants in the Santa Cruz area to waste your time and money in a place like this.
