Morimoto New York

Description

Morimoto is the New York City interpretation of Executive Chef Masaharu Morimoto's namesake Philadelphia restaurant that is co-owned with restaurateur Stephen Starr. Designed by world renowned architect Tadao Ando, the restaurant's entrance features the world's largest Japanese Noren curtain set against a massive facade of austere steel. Inside is an extraordinary open kitchen surrounded by a 24-seat sushi bar where diners can watch Morimoto and his chefs at work. On every level of the restaurant guests enjoy the elaborate menu where East meets West. Glass partitions create a private atmosphere between tables and a wall made of 17,000 spring water bottles add a touch of New York drama to this tranquil atmosphere. Guests have the option to dine on the top floor or congregate in the lower lounge for cocktails and snacks.

Truly an experience. Presentation was outstanding. Taste was amazing. Our waiter was the most accommodating, friendly waiter I've EVER had in NY. Bathrooms just made the experience ever more special!! Will definitely return.

Not your typical sushi dinner
By ,
My husband and I had the chef's dinner which had seven courses to it. Off the charts presentaion however lacked in overall creative taste. We each had three cocktails from the bar and could still walk a VERY straight line. Normally after two I am ready to fall over so I felt that they were a bit overpriced and watered down. The 'Kobe' beef was overly sweet covered in terriyaki sauce and difficult to cut. The salad course was gritty because it had not be wash all the way clean. The oyster dish had bits of oyster shell in it which is not a good feeling when you chew on that. Lastly, the sushi rice was not as soft as if should be with a bit too much wasabi on it to fully enjoy the fish. But if you are looking for a really unique presentation of a wide variety of food than this is the place for you. A clean and and modern interior with a bit more space than most New York restaurants does provide for fresh dining experience. The Toto toilet is a nice touch in the restroom too. I enjoyed my dinner but I am not sure if $450 for two dinners and 6 drinks was worth all the hype with this restaurant. But it is Manhatten after all!

great server
By ,
Went there for lunch during restaurant week. The food was good but I guess because I watched so much Iron Chef, I kinda expected the dishes to be more inventive than what we saw. The 3 courses were miso soup, salad, and a choice of 3 main courses (sushi selection picked by the chef, angry chicken, braised cod). We picked the chicken and the sushi. I was pleasantly surprised by our server (I think her name was Alice) who was really exceptional (and cute too :p). A more detailed review will be posted on my blog.

Very Romantic experience

We loved the bartender, loved the ambiance, loved the waitress, a bit pricy. Not a place for children, nor would the customers appreciate a screaming child. Great place to go to escape, relax, and have no worries. Staff was very informative on menu of food and drinks.
