Hiro Sone and Lissa Doumani as chefs and co-owners of Terra Restaurant in St. Helena, have brought their sense of taste and style to Ame Restaurant. Ame offers a relaxed yet elegant dining experience. Guests will be welcomed to the intimate, L-shaped dining room by rich mesquite wood floors and striking surroundings. The interior of the restaurant includes a custom designed raw bar, a stunning red lacquered wall, and the restaurant's signature "red table," a five-foot square table. The menu showcases seasonal New American cuisine, with a blending of flavors from southern France, northern Italy and Japan. Guests can select from raw treatments from the raw bar, such as crudo and tartare, as well as a range of appetizer and entree plates, and an assortment of artisan cheese and desserts.
This is a great experience. the food is a wonderful mixture of Japanese and Californian and the service is prompt and great, at times almost too prompt but very attentive.
The signature dish is the black cod which melts on the tongue, but all the dishes we sampled were outstanding in taste, texture and presentation.
We came for lunch and Ame did not disappoint! The restaurant is upscale but not very pretentious. Needless to say, it was expensive so I would suggest lunch over dinner since most of the same dishes are served for lunch at a fraction of the price.
We started off with a few appetizers, tempura poke, ceviche, the hamachi, and oysters, all of which had great flavors and presentation. For my entree, I had their house specialty, the Alaskan Black Cod - delicious! It was extremely light, yet tasty. The cod's flavor was clean and naturally sweet and buttery; it melted in my mouth! Others at the table had the scallops and the kobe and gave raves reviews. I can't wait to come again!
Excellent food! Top shelf on everything. Yes it could be pricey but it is worth every dollar. Service was very attentive. Try the sampler...from soup, to sushi, to Kobe beef to dessert...it was heaven!
pricey but definitely worth the splurge for a special ocassion! the fresh sashimi, tempura poke, and the cod are excellent. they also have panna cotta with an assortment of fresh fruits...yum! their food is fun and creative without being too cliched or weird.
our server seemed a little new, so he didn't seem to understand how to be attentive without lurking or hovering over us 24/7. it was a tad awkward but hopefully he'll get better with more experience.
