Cocina Poblana attempts to high brow traditional Mexican cuisine, but does not succeed. Food is not much different than one would fine in a run-of-the-mill Mexican resturant, at a lower price. The Sopa Azteca lacked any punch, the Chile Rolleno was nothing special and the tostadas were bland. Food lack the seasoning one would fine in a good Mexican resturant south-of-the-border.
I went to Cocina Poblana when they first opened. I had the pollo espinado! WOW i just loved the taste of the sauce! it just blew my taste buds away! I read some reviews previsly about the small portions, if your not full try the cofee flan they have it is very tasty as well. I havn't been in the area to go a 2nd time, but i will soon make time for it!
I am a Mexican National and when my friends ask me to take them to a Mexican restaurant i always take them to Cocina Poblana. The service is incredible and the food is truly a taste of Mexico. The only problem with this restaurant is its location. It is a bit difficult to find, but that is very beneficial for those who already know it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and i will continue going until they close.
The food here is fresh, well prepared and beautifully served. The carnitas are amazing, and the tacos are elegant and refined, dripping with taste. Their raspaditas are wonderful as well. For mole fans--the pumpkin seed one is my favorite. Be sure to try the cafe de olla, if you have never had this, it is delightful, sweet, and cinnamony. Be warned the portions are enormous! The wait staff is very attentive, but definately not a place to rush in for a quick bite.
The food was delicious, good portion size, decent price. Waitress was wonderful, but the service was slow overall because it was pretty busy. My first time here - so I don't know if the service is usually slow. Nonetheless, if I'm not in a rush - I'd definitely come back here.
