Slows Bar BQ is hands down everyone's favorite Detroit BBQ joint. Slows is well known for its mouthwatering barbecue like their Carolina Pulled Pork and St. Louis Spareribs. Make sure to try the Yardbird sandwich with pulled smoked Amish chicken breast in mustard sauce with sauteed mushrooms, cheddar and applewood bacon, nominated as one of the Best Ten Sandwiches in America. Slows is also well known for its great selection of craft beers, and after its January 2013 remodel, the bar now has room for 36 new taps and therefore 36 new types of beer.
Generous portions, good sides. Having said that, I ordered the Combo platter of St. Louis ribs and pulled chicken; was told by the waiter that pulled is a menu typo and it s actually chopped. It actually came in large chunks, like thick slices. I also asked about beer, and was told they have too many to name and that I could instead go across the restaurant and read their two chalk boards to choose one. Had the impression the waiter lacked any ability or experience to make suggestions, which was odd as they seem to brag about their beer offerings. The chicken was moist and tender, but had no flavor. The ribs also had no flavor but smoke, a taste that lasted in my mouth even after we left the restaurant. Dessert would have removed the smoke, but the waiter did not even suggest anything. The sauces had different labels, but 4 of the 5 on the table were as exciting as ketchup. This was our 2nd trip to slows - there was a long gap in between, and I cannot say I ll ever return.
Out of state, local recommended; we went late after Tiger game. So good went to another Tiger game and came back to Slow s again. Baby Back Ribs are MUCH better than the St Louis Ribs! Homemade lemon is ice cold delicious. The triple sandwich with apple BBQ sauce was tender, moist and tasty. 5 of 5 stars ! :)
Worst bbq in Metro Detroit. Have been there twice because I figured if everyone else said it was good, maybe I just had a bad experience the first time. Nope. Overcooked, dry meat, no smoke flavor, poor/rude service, and none of the food looked like what you ve seen on tv. Maybe it s good for the area, because the only way for that area of Detroit to go was up...
Great service and environment always! Pretty darn good
micro brew selection (instate and out-of-state). Great food! Love the
mac n cheese, black eyed peas and pretty much every sandwich on the menu! Love bringing in first timers and letting them find the hidden door....always a good laugh!
Only cons: -Need more tv s for wings, tigers, lions, etc.
- Could be insanely busy at any given momment....went
there on a thursday at 2pm and had to go somewhere else
because the line went out the door! Weekend nights are
guaranteed to be slammed!
Had lunch today at Slows. I was really looking forward to it because I've heard so many good things about the food. Since the only meat I eat is chicken, I was disappointed that there weren't many options to choose from. However, my friend and I really enjoyed the food we ordered. On the negative side, the parking is horrific, it is impossible to find the door to the restaurant (funny, yet annoying) and the hostesses and wait-staff are incredibly rude! A little customer service would go a long way. Their rudeness will most likely keep me from going back again.
I just had lunch there. I had the Deuce... brisket and pork... 2 sides were the Mac and cheese, and the baked beans... I was dying - thought I went to heaven and now I'm back to tell you how good the food was. It's been a long time getting a good bar-b-que. I loved the taste and the amount I got. Couldn't believe how much meat was given to me. The price was great too - almost $13 dollars. Well worth it..
Service was good. I would definitely go back again... think I loved the Brisket best of all. Enjoy!
Went there because we saw it on Man vs Food. The food was good but for the price it didn't include chips or fries. Was charged for the extra pickles and sauce we ordered. How cheap can they get! Don't know if we will go back.
Red Smoke Barbecue is a bit of an oasis in Greektown, providing a respite from the typical Mediterranean offerings. Check
out dishes like Carolina or St. Louis style ribs, smoked chicken, brisket and pulled pork, or try them all! ...
