Original Pancake House
The Original Pancake House was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1953 by Les Highet and Erma Hueneke. Drawing upon their many years of experience in the culinary field, and their extensive working knowledge of authentic national and ethnic pancake recipes they were able to offer without compromise this unique and original menu which has gained national acclaim. The Original Pancake House is a second and third generation family business, which takes great pride in maintaining the high standards that make our food so outstanding. We now have over one hundred franchises from coast to coast, which have won local and national acclaim. Our recipes demand only the very finest of ingredients, such as 93 score butter, pure 36% whipping cream, fresh grade AA eggs, hard wheat unbleached flour, and our own recipe sourdough starter. Our batters and sauces are made fresh in each restaurantac2s kitchen.
We went for breakfast today because they have a gluten-free menu of pancakes. I have celiac disease and, thus, do not have gluten in my diet. I asked about having a gluten-free waffle which they said they could make for me.
Unfortunately, the waffle was extremely heavy and way too doughy. Took much of it home for the dog! The recipe needs to be tweaked to make it light and fluffy. Either that or a different gluten-free flour needs to be used. I use the brand Pamela's at home to make pancakes and they turn out very good. My husband loved his (regular) pancakes. They were very light and fluffy.
We went to the OPH in Roseville for the first time today. I should have read reviews BEFORE going. My husband ordered an omelet and we were informed that it would be at least 15-20 min for the omelet. We agreed to the additional time. However, we didn't see our food for 50 MINUTES! Our waitress felt since we had agreed to the added time, she didn't have to come by our table during that time. We managed to call her over around minute 30 and asked her to check on our food. She brought more water and said it would be another couple of minutes. It was another 20. The portions were riduculously small for the amount of money we paid. Our bill for breakfast was $54 for 4 people. This place wasn't that special. I'll take my money and my time elsewhere. I will not go back.
WELL , if you go. just go for the specialty pancakes, everything is is pretty much diner quality. just falls flat. beef has was weak. things such as coffe. toast, eggs are all priced at 3.00 jesus can u just have a piece of toast with my meal without it being held hostage. no im not paying 3.00 for toast. MAKE sure you have change for the owner at the counter, shes anal bout getting one's INSTEAD of 20 dollar bills. JUST GO FOR THE PANKAKES.
The Original Pancake House has the best food in Sacramento... Hands down. I love the pigs in a blanket. They will make you what ever you want, how you want.
Their coffee is also second to none. Their OJ is fresh, just like all of their food, and is making me hungry just thinking about it.
If you are in Roseville, make sure you stop in. The owners are always there and always coming by to ask how you are doing. I love this place. Best food!
OPH is excellent fare for the breakfast lover. I HIGHLY recommend their pancakes, and would be happy with a Dutch Baby every time I went. I was less impressed with their omelette selections and the eggs florentine were less flavorful than I would have liked.
The service is always exceptional and the friendly staff and owner care for their clients. However, this great food and great service is a little pricey. Well worth the treat, though! And remember, you can't go wrong ordering a pancake from the Original Pancake House!
Ok - I know I gave the food a 5/5, but that's specifically for their specialty (pancakes). We haven't found pancakes there that we don't love. The rest of their food is so-so, but, hey, if you go to a place named Original Pancake House and don't order their pancakes...then, why? :) It does cost a bit, but you get a lot of food for your money and their pancakes really are THAT good.
