I love this place. Brunch is awesome although they don't offer the all you can eat Hawaiian brunch anymore I highly recommend you attend during one of the holidays when they do offer it. At dinner this place is also a great place.Good music playing and great to people watch. Enjoy!!!
The sushi here is excellent. The fish is the freshest I've tasted, save for when I make my own sushi at home. The sushi rice has just the right amount of seasoning. The sushi chefs are friendly and attentive, especially Erick.
Wish I could say the same for the wait staff. Our waitperson slammed a drink on the counter and sailed past before I could even ask him for some low sodium soy sauce. Then when I asked him later where my soup was, he brought it and again slammed it down on the counter space. I hear that this has been a problem at Riptide as of late.
I don't mind, I'll still go for the sushi because it still outweighs the poor waiter experience. My new fave!
(will change to five stars when I have five visits with no issues)
Over priced drinks, mediocre food and a staff that is more occupied taking sake bombers than serving customers. Went to Riptide last night and right off the bat I'm annoyed by the drink prices $9.00 for a martini? That's crazy! Then they get my order wrong and my guests order wrong. then it took me 15 minutes to get myself a coke and my guest a fork all the while I see my server drinking sake bombers with another group of people that he wasn't serving. Last time I ever set foot in that dump! Also the 80's music sucked !
Food is great, service slow, dishes dirty. When I received my initial bill it was for around $150, after the waitress ran my credit card the new bill included suggested tip amounts, that s a great idea, the problem is the suggested tip amounts included $12 worth of taxes. I prefer to tip on the actual amount of the bill not an inflated figure.
Went to Rip Tide to celebrate my bday with my girlfriend and could not have had a worse experience. To start, we were told the teppen tables had a 30-60 minute wait. We waited nearly 2 hours for just two seats. Once at the table we ordered. Subsequently a larger party sat and also ordered. The waiters brought salad and miso soup for everyone except us. We finally had to ask the cook if we get any too. This was also brought up to the employees who would come by to ask how the meal is. We would tell them and they did not care. We ordered filet and shrimp while the rest of the table was filet and scallops. When we were given the shrimp for our dinner, we recieved 4 shrimp more than the rest of the tables shrimp appetizers. The Filet mignon had lots of fat and even though we ordered it prepared differently, they were both cokked the same length of time. I have visited many teppan restaurants and our chef was not skilled nor was the chef at the neighboring table who kept coming over to ask how to prepare his dishes. If this were an isolated issue or one individual who caused the bad experience I could understand. However it was the entire staff that was more interested in chatting with their friends then helping the rest of the customers. I want to thank Rip Tide for making my Birthday dinner memorable as it will never be forgotten. I would encourage everyone reading this to look online for other teppan places in the area as there are other good ones. RipTide is simply not worth the risk.
I have been going to Riptide regularly since they opened. The food is excellent, sushi is some of the best in OC and if you like an almost club (music) atmosphere, go on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday night. The music is awesome, TV's are going with the latest sports games and everyone has a great time. ON THE SERVICE- the restaurant is poorly designed. I used to complain that the servers were really slow until I started becoming a regular customer and saw the issue. If you are at a dining table, the bar drinks come from the bar through the kitchen and the bartenders are usually busy with the bar crowd so the drink orders get backed up bigtime. All the food and drinks come from the kitchen area on the north side of the place so getting things to customers on the far south side (around the huge sushi bar) is a long walk, especially if a server has 5-6 tables of 5+ each people to attend to. Best server in the whole place Jeremy. Best tappan chef is Kitty (if he's not downstairs at the piano bar cooking). Don't sit in Jay's section if you are looking for a friendly/funny/fast server. Figure you are in for at least 90 minutes for dinner on a busy night and cut the servers some slack unless the really suck. The food takes a while sometimes so dont plan on a quick meal. Always make a reservation if you can. Checkout The Derby downstairs too for dueling pianos. Same owner as Riptide.
