I called the Common Man in Merrimack, NH to purchase a gift card for my son and his wife for his birthday. When I asked if I could pay by credit card, the fellow told me that I can order a gift card on-line by going to www.cman.com Well, guess what? www.cman.com appears to be a sex site and, at age 75, I am not into that. Therefore, since I cannot purchase a gift card by telephone and cannot locate the appropriate website, I will now call Buckley's in Merrimack to purchase a gift card. Sincerely, Nancy Auclair
Common Man is one of those restaurants that you really hope will be good. It’s in a great location. It’s something new to the Merrimack area. The menu looks really good. It’s not exactly a “chain” but there are a few of them that maybe you’ve heard good things about. So we really looked forward to trying it when it opened.
I’ve eaten there 3 times – twice by choice and once with a group of co-workers. You know what they say about 3 strikes? There are too many other good restaurants in the area to waste time or money at Common Man.
1st visit – ordered apps and $18-20 entrees. Two bites into our salad/soup they brought our entrees. I kind of looked at the waitress a little confused and told her we had only just received our soup/salad. She said she could take it back and “keep it warm” for us. Um, no thanks. I’d prefer my $20 entrée not sit under a heat lamp for 15 minutes. Apps were good, desserts of white choco mousse and white choco bread pudding were good, husband’s steak was good, my chicken was not very good (dry and tasteless). Okay, maybe it was an off night or they are working out the kinks.
2nd visit was with co-workers and was so unspectacular I don’t even remember what I had for a meal. The salad was good and I skipped dessert. The bread basket at the beginning of the meal is always very good.
3rd and last visit was again with my husband. Salads and bread were good. My husband’s prime rib was overcooked and lacking any flavor, according to him. It arrived with an uninspired, shriveled little baked potato and soggy asparagus. My chicken was again dry and tasteless (I definitely wouldn’t get the chicken here, they just don’t know how to cook it any other way but overdone). We tried to salvage the meal with the previously enjoyed white chocolate bread pudding but on this visit, it was awful. It was virtually tasteless! Hmmm.
Like I said, I really had high hopes for this restaurant. They just don’t deliver and it’s not worth it, IMO.
Excellent food...not someplace I would take the boys as it is a little pricey and doesn't offer chicken nuggets lol. I love the atmosphere...very rustic and cosy. A great date place! The service is exceptional. We would rather have dark chocolate after the meal as opposed to their trademark white chocolate...but no place is perfect!
