The Christy Mission was amazing. It is so beautiful and the scenery was amazing. The story is still alive there. There is alot of history there. The owner does an amazing job telling the story and giving tours. If you ever have any questions go right to him. As you go up the road you see signs that say school house, church.. etc. There is an old house that i got to go into. There was still old furniture, books, and silverware lying around. It was amazing!
I read Christy when I was a teenager. It is my favorite book of all time - except for the Bible! I have a deep love for the mountains and the people there, especially since my grandmother was from the NC mountains. Just to get to see the actual place where all of these dear characters actually walked and lived their lives was a thrill. I would never have found this place, but my brother lives in Newport, and he took me there. So not only did I see this wonderful place, but anytime I spend with my "big brother" is special! I plan to visit again.
