Genesee County's first microbrewery and restaurant, this restaurant specializes in juicy, mesquite grilled steaks, premium liquors, and award-winning beers. A fine wine cellar and a cigar lounge are also on site and live music is provided on various evenings. They are open daily for lunch, dinner, and late night dining and wine tasting is available on the fourth Monday of each month.
In regards to the other reviewer of this restaurant (the one that came with the party). While I agree Redwood is loud, over-priced, and generally a lousy place to eat, I find it unbelievable that you would have to "be warned" about the price of steaks. They did warn you... it's called the menu. Also, the Redwood salad (their house salad) is their signature dish. You weren't brought the wrong salad, you didn't read the menu (again), and you payed the price.
Granted, they should offer a regular salad if people want it, but the folks at Blue Collar Gourmet (who own/run this place) don't let what their customers want get in the way of doing business (for proof, check out their menu at Bubba O'Malley's and visit their cafe in the Genesys Athletic Club, which is terribly over-priced with a terrible selection of things to eat).
We had some friends give us a $50 gift certificate to Redwood Lodge (they couldn't imagine ever using it), and we've run into the problem that we just don't want to eat there--free or not. In fact, we tried to unload the certificates on other people, and we couldn't find any takers.
That should tell you something about the place. What passes for good in Flint, just doesn't cut it.
My uncle's 60th brthday was celebrated here. The atmosphere was loud. Was told our waiter didn't start work until 45 minutes after the party started showing up...so no drinks until then. Our dinner was ordered and we weren't warned most steaks ordered were $42. I ordered a house salad and they brought me the wrong one- cranberries, red onions, vinegar, walnuts, blue cheese... The steaks came and most of the 14 couples were not satisfied- almost half was fat. We then waited over an hour to get the bill. They couldn't figure out how to get them all printed with the 20% gratuity. Rather than just doing it with a simple piece of paper and pen, they messed with the computer for over an hour. For 20+ people to be disappointed, we won't go back.
My wife and I had entertainment coupons, live in Saginaw, so decided to stop on the way home from Detroit. The place was crowded, a loud, boistorous atmosphere. Brewery beer at $3.50 was good, martini priced at $8.50 a little pricey. No steak prices on the menu. A sign on the wall suggested $2.95 per oz for filet mignon, so we ordered the 6 oz filet, included nice salad, hot bread and loaded baked potato. But when the bill came, each dinner was $27. That would have been OK if the price had been on the menu, but was a little shock. Thanks to the entertainment coupon, the total price was OK. The food was very good. We will probably think twice about returning, at least for a steak dinner.
The Redwood Micro Brewery has a great building, very outdoorsy. Their food is a bit pricey but first grade. The best part is their happy hour $2 pints and free food. The happy hour is located in the cigar lounge from 4-7.
