Hawthorne Cove Marina
Located near the famous House of the Seven Gables, this is the finest full service marina in Salem, with slips and moorings available year-round, a full range of repair services is available, as well as there being on-site showers and laundry facilities.
Kept a boat here over winter for several years. The dockmaster and the two young guys who do the yard work are fine, but the management leaves a lot to be desired. Poor communication, lack of followup, promises made but never kept. This alone means I would not let them do any work on my boat. This winter I'm not going back.
We where told we could work on our boat with no prblem this summer. Gave them our money. Now that we want to work on our boat they want to charge us $280.00 a month to be able to do this. This charge is not in there listing nor were we told about it. The manager gets mad at us on the phone and says he is doing us a faver. Next year we go somewhere else.
When we hit Kettle Bottom rock off Marblehead, along with 10 other boats this year, we had a hole about two feet below the water line and were taking on water. A call to Coast Guard brought the local Harbor Masters to our side. The Beverly HM jumped on with an extra pump and called around for a Sunday 5PM haul out. Hawthorne Cove Marina made it happen. They had us in the slings about 15 min. after we got there.
The line of communication with the service department was quick and helpful. They explained the steps of the repair and clean up process, and completed the work on time. The only missed step was a little debris in the dry bilge which was cleaned up when pointed out. Like anything you need to be involved in the process. I liked the service, staff and waterfront and would go back as a visitor next time. They are very close to the Salem Historic spots.
I kept my sailboat at Hawthorne for winter storage 2006/2007. They jam the boats in and then block the road so you can not get to your boat. You need long hoses and extension cords if you can find the few outlets avaiable. In the spring they told me my boat would be in on a certain date but was not. Then got mad when I asked if they were going to put in in that day. They lost a part for my boat and promised to reinburse me, that was 10 mounts ago. I would not keep my boat there, the marina is run down and the launch service ends early. I now keep my boat at Danversport marina for winter storage. Great people, plenty of space and water and electric nearby.
I keep my boat at a mooring at Hawthorne Cove during the summers. Although the marina would leave a lot to be desired to the traveling yachtsman in terms of fancy facilities I have found the staff to be great!! Compared to some of the other choices in the area (aka Beverlyport) Hawthorne Cove Marina is paradise. Most of the members at HCM are working folks who like to spend their freetime on the water, it's location is convenient to downtown salem and it offers both transient slips and moorings as well as launch service. Whoever posted the other review on yahoo should stick to Marblehead and stay off our side of the channel.
The marina is in need of a major overhaul. Not only is it very expensive, it is very run down and dirty. The customer service from the dock hands leaves a lot to be desired. I would not go back to this marina again.
