Come explore the backwoods of Georgia from the water with the expert guides at Appalachian Outfitters. Located north of Atlanta in rural Dahlonega, this adventurous group offers canoeing and kayaking outings through pristine country along the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers. For those in search of a more reflective, less strenuous adventure, casual tubing journeys are also an option. All necessary equipment, as well as instruction and refreshments, are available on site. Half-day river treks are also available. The outfit operates seasonally, April through September.
We saw the run times posted and knew it was a 2 1/2 hr run and our guide Justin had informed us of that before we left but also let us know that if we were a little longer it was no problem . The river was so beautiful and the rapids although small were very exciting . We did get hung on some rocks but that was all part of the fun The pullout point obvious and enjoyed some time wading the river and watching divers dredge for gold and before we knew it Justin was there to pick us up and we laughed and joked all the back to where we were parked
THE OWNER IS INCREDIBLY RUDE, WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! THe river is so dried up...even though they say "you will have a great time" you will be pushing your canoe/kayak the ENTIRE TIME! Make sure before you go out on the water that you have them explain to you where the end of the trip is!!! Also we heard later that their prices are DOUBLE the competitors around the area!!
I love Dahlongega, I love how the atmosphere has been left natural. I love the people, very friendly and will go out of there way to help you. My kids love it to. They have a lot of fun.
So, I would recommend anyone to go and while your their you need to go kayaking.
For the other response if you can't handle your kinds you don't need to take them anywhere! That's your responsibility to take care of them not anyone else's!
My group of five, rented three canoes. It was a busy day and the manager seemed to have a hard time keeping up with all the traffic. Nevertheless things seemed to go smoothly. As we were directed to our canoes we were told the basic what to do's and where to go's, and off we went. We had a wonderfull time, we laughed at each other as we kept getting caught on all the rocks. We stopped on a large rock to have lunch and take in the atmosphere. However we completely forgot about the time. Who brings a watch or a cell on a river? We were two hours late getting back and we felt awful. We apologized up and down for our inconvenience. The man who was waiting was very nice to us and helped us laugh it off. We tiped him as best we could, it think it turned out to be 30 to 50 bucks. He admitted that because we left in such a large group they probably forgot to tell us what time they closed. When we got back to the start point, the first thing out of our mouths was how sorry we were. The manager was so rude to us, so condescending, I almost cried. We ran back to the car, it took us 5 min. to change our clothes, when The manager pulls up to our van gets out of his car, leans in and continues to berate us. When we tried again to explain he call us liars. I will admit that at that point I did get rude back, and threw him a parting gesture. I was outraged!!! I will NEVER go back there again! In all my experience dealing with the public, you NEVER verbally abuse your customers, especially over an honest mistake.
I live in Dahlonega, and this is a great place to spend an afternoon tubing! I've gone many times every summer! It's wonderful. The people are very helpful, and it's a perfect place to relax and have fun.
