Westville, Lumpkin

Going to Westville on one of their many special weekends is such a treat! My family and I live near Westville and have gone their on many occasions.The "fiddling contest" coming up this weekend is one that I have looked forward to going to for many years.

THIS SELF GUIDED TOUR PROVIDES A GLANCE OF 1850'S STYLE LIVING. WESTVILLE OFFERS A VIEW OF THE SURVIVAL SKILLS UTILIZED OVER 150 YRS AGO. I LOVE THE SAUSAGE, BISCUITS, AND THE GINGERBREAD IS THE BEST, ALL COOKED ON SITE USING AN OPEN FIRE AND OLD IRONWARE.

My family and I went Westville and there was know one telling about the houses and the background of the village. The house were nice but I like these places to learn the history and not to walk aroungd and look and guess at what could happen.

The buildings and the history are interesting. There is nothing modern, it is all like it was in the 1850's. The people working were not friendly. We would quickly get a canned speech about what they were doing. It seemed like they were just there for a paycheck. One lady was very nice and told our kids what they would be expected to do in the 1850's and let them grind coffee. We did not get to try the candle making or see any cooking being done. The kids wanted to go on a wagon ride and again the driver seemed like he was just there for a paycheck, no interest in explaining anything. This was not worth the $10 for adult admission price.

I loved it because I love the 1800's, so this was an absolutely wonderful experience!
