Valencia Golf Course
\"Naples' most distinctive public golf course,\" this Gordon Lewis designed, parkland style 18 hole, 7,145 yard championship golf course was rated a \"must play course\" by Golf Digest and is a unique addition to the Naples golfing experience.
We had played Valencia several years ago and enjoyed the experience. We returned this year. However, we had heard that the renovations to the greens had made them, and I quote, "gimmicky". We concur with that assessment and because of our experience will not return to Valencia and cannot recommend the course. To put my comments in perspective, our handicaps are 13, 20 and 22. We enjoy a challenging golf experience. However, the excessive undulations and mounds of the new greens made them nearly a joke to play on. We travel to Naples (from the Northeast) to play a variety of courses in the area. Given the ability to play even some private places and the other options, we highly recommend that others now avoid Valencia. Panther Run, which is just 10 or so minutes further out, is nearly an infinitely better course and layout. If you have not played it, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. We were also pleasantly surprised by Stoneybrook. We played there because it was right off Rt 75 and allowed us to get an afternoon round in when one of our group arrived around noon. I don't mean to bash Valencia and have no financial skin in the game with other courses - we simply visit Naples each spring. Valencia, however, is now off our list forever. Panther Run is such a better course and experience. Plus, one can relatively easily get on some other courses that have a better layout, better greens, and BETTER views.
They really went above and beyond with their renovations and turned a place I already love to play even better. The new miniverde greens are fast and the new renovations increased the level of difficulty making it a challenging and fun game. The staff is hands down the reason we keep coming back every year. They recognized us and welcomed us back and it had been a year since we'd been there! Hands down the best public course in the area and best bang for the buck.
Don't waste your time and money on this piece of crap course. The greens are all burned out, practically just dirt. I could not believe they have the guts to charge full price to play. They make no attempt to tell you this in the interest of making a buck. The management of this course should be ashamed. I will never return to this course, regardless of the conditions. I later found out that they intend to shut down the course in a few weeks. Lot of good that does after you've put your money down the drain. Join me in boycotting this course.
Valenica is playable for all skill levels. It is very affordable and is a wonderful layout. The only drawback is that the greens are often shaggy and sometimes aerated, which detracts from the experience. However, having played many courses around here that cost 2X or 3X what Valencia charges, you just aren't going to find a better golf course for the money.
There is nothing fancy about Valencia, but it provides a very relaxed, fun round. The prices are moderate, kids are welcome, the staff is pleasant and the course is very playable. Slope of 119 from the mid-tees, but testing from the back. Greens are true.
Played in July now for several years in a row (2004-2006)...no waiting, fair price, good condition, and as challenging as you would like it. Almost all holes are open....not target golf like some of the newer courses.
Good facilities, including driving range...friendly personnel and accomodating for tee times.....hope it stays this good and would recommend to any player I know.
Surly, inattentive staff put a damper on the experience. Green fees are higher than most for this time of year. Range balls not free, no one at bag drop, starter not at tee but showed up to rudely and reluctantly allow us to tee off 3 minutes early although no one else was around.
Having played all of the available public courses in Naples,I find that Valencia has the most to offer, personally I love the space provided between holes, and the fact that there's no homes immediately on the edge of the fairways adds to the beauty of the course, there are no distractions only lash greens and trees....
