Benley: A Vietnamese Kitchen
Take a seat on the large wall-to-wall couch, before a tiny table and feast on some excellent Vietnamese food at Benley. Besides the ubiquitous pho , a traditional meat-and-noodle soup, the place is adept at creating and serving up steaming plates of spring and pork egg rolls, vermicelli and tofu steak, thus banishing any possible dissatisfaction caused by its decrepit location. On the contrary, the cassava cake at dessert will leave you contemplating a comeback. The owners have even gone through the trouble to jazz up the bathroom with lights and pebbles. Come and find out why diners are raving about the place; be forewarned, you will get addicted!
We found Benley: A Vietnamese Kitchen in the 2006 Zagat Guide. We decided to check it out about a year ago. We were thrilled with the food and service. We have been back many times and it's one of our favorite places in the LA/OC area. All the dishes ROCK! We love the salmon and the pho and the charred pork spring rolls as an appetizer. The manager (Tong) is friendly and wonderful and works hard to accomodate the people who have to wait for a table. We drive in from Santa Monica to dine here . . . that's how good it is. GO! You won't be disappointed. ~ Kelly & Joe
One of the best restaurant experiences you will have in Long Beach. While they do not have a liquior license, you are welcome to bring your own bottle of wine (most customers always do) and their corkage is so minimal that you will be able to have a GREAT meal and wine for a party of 4 under $100 bucks.
I have ordered everything on their menu and have not been dissapointed once. Their desserts are something super special. The place is cool and modern and you will dine to really cool music. The presentation, service and feel of the place will have you going back over and over. This place is a must!
We just ate here tonight and really enjoyed it. The service was great and the food was incredible. I didn't think the prices were all that steep given how clean and well presented the food is. The steak with potato dish is fabulous and is unique to the restaurant. It is located at the end of the shopping center with Goodwill and is tucked away and a bit hard to find but once you are there it is great.

The other review posted January 07 was incredibly harsh. The food here is amazing. Even if you don't like Vietnamese food, there will be something you will enjoy. Guaranteed. I've taken everybody from my clients to close friends here.
If you like an intimate setting that isn't pretentious, you'll like Benley.
There are few restaurants around where the owner will personally sit with you and make sure the food and service expectations are met.
Try it for yourself. I would recommend to call ahead for a reservation if there are 4+ in your party. They're busy for a reason.
We love the food but HATE the service! We started going when they first opened and found the workers to be very hospitable but after the first month it seems to have gone down hill. We are non vietnamese and are made to feel as intruders in this restaurant. I have been to Vietnam and find the people WONDERFUL but this place obviously caters to their vietnamese clients leaving all other ethnicities feeling unwelcome. We have been asked to wait 10 minutes for a table when there have been 4 tables open, this happened on more than one occasion. There was even an incident when 1 person was dining alone, sitting at a 4 top table, and he was asked to move to a smaller table EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE 4 tables still available???? Why do we keep going... it's closer than Westminster and the only Vietnamese restaurant around and the food is GREAT! We have decided to only order takeout from now on. Go for the food but be prepared for AWFUL service and an unwelcoming feeling. COME ON SOMEONE OPEN A VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT SO THEY HAVE SOME COMPETITION!
