Millennium Park

Description

Millennium Park is one of the newest additions to Chicago's many wide-open urban spaces, and is host to a range of indoor/outdoor activities for the entire family. You can listen to top musical events at the outdoor pavilion, or glide across the bustling ice skating rink come winter. The park is also home to some of the city's best public art, such as the interactive Crown Fountain, and the scene-stealing Cloud Gate —a mirrored sculpture situated in the middle of the plaza. For a scenic walk, take a stroll through the Lurie Garden, or wind your way along Frank Gehry's BP Bridge. For a bit of the park's history, be sure to take a peek at the Peristyle, a replica of the curving row of paired Greek columns that were on the corner of Grant Park near Michigan and Randolph from 1917 to 1953. While in the park one cannot afford to miss the Cloud Gate Sculpture, a three storied structure built with 110 tons of steel. It is called the Bean Sculpture by the residents.

Redefines day at the park
Peaceful and serene, the park is bounded by magnificent views of the skyline. The Bean is now a Chicago landmark and a must for every visitor (or resident), especially considering the Park's central location. The Crown Fountains are impressive for adults and fun for kids (in the summer).

Best of its kind!
By ,
I've never seen a park like it! This is the best park I've ever been to in my life. The atmosphere is great, the people are very friendly. In it you'll see a "solar bean" which is a big silver-like thing that looks like a bean. You could see your reflection in it!I would DEFINETLY recommend this park to anyone that wants to enjoy the great atmosphere.

Something for everyone
By ,
Four years late, hundreds of millions over budget, but... by conservative figures it's added 1.5 billion to the economy. How? An outdoor cafe by summer, ice rink by winter on Michigan. A fountain with videos portraits that squirts -- full of kids cavorting in the water. The bean, a giant mirror sculpture. And, an outdoor concert hall plus lawn: Bring wine, snacks, and a blanket to hear sound better than in some indoor halls. Millenium Park made a once dowdy area delightful.

Of all the places I thought were going to be stupid surprised me! You must go here and experience for yourself! Take some time around and under the bean. Great view of Michigan Ave.

Summer Fun
By ,
The fountains are a great place for the kids to run wild for an hour or two, with the gigantic movie screen fountains. The clean cool water could come from a mountain stream, or be projected from the mouth of a thirty-foot tall human face. Also, there's plenty for the parents to do - exhibits inform visitors of places of interest around the city, from the lakefront to Wrigley Field. And there are a ton of walking paths with beautiful landscaping. And don't miss the big silver jelly bean thing. It's very cool.

It was okay...
By ,
This was the first place that my boyfriend and I went on our trip to CHicago, b/c we read the reviews and assumed it would be the best thing to do. So we walked there and yeah they have some cool things to look at, but other than that...it's just kind of boring. Once you get your view of the kidney bean and the cool spitting fountain...you can eat some reaaally overpriced food and that's about it. Overall it's a cool place to just stop by when you are passing it, but don't make it a priority.

Beautiful space
By ,
It's amazing that designers could create such a beautiful open space of artistic endeavors among downtown Chicago buildings. Salute!
