This venue was built in 1968 and seats an audience of 2,734 people. It has a full stage, an orchestra pit, and can cater food for up to 1,000 seated guests. We recently visited Charleston and enjoyed a "Charleston Pops" concert played by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra--a delightful evening in the Gaillard Auditorium! A rickshaw took us to and from our downtown hotel to the Gaillard Auditorium, which added more fun to the evening.

Unfortunately for the Charleston Symphony and other music performers, this auditorium has poor acoustics -- the sound is muffled. The auditorium needs a good acoustic ceiling. And the nice soft cushioned seats don't help either--they absorb too much sound (one does have to suffer a bit for art after all).
