Zona Arqueológica de Tulum, Cancun

Great trip. A little smaller than Chichen Itza (sp?) but a great atmosphere and LOTS closer. Recommend you check it out.

Having visited Tulum 4 years ago, I was greatly disappointed by this visit in June 2006. The reasons? 1. The touring companies have inundated the place. There are large groups roaming about everywhere, spoiling the ambience of the ruins. In the past, the distant sound of the sea and the songs of birds were all that reached your meditative thoughts while walking in the steamy ancient ruin. Now you hear tour guides spitting back talking points. 2. The beach at Tulum used to be an awesome place to spend the day. We had planned to do that. Now the main beach has been closed, and only a relatively small strip of sand is available. It does not receive the ocean breezes, the waves are harsh, and greedy American spoiled brats are kicking sand in your face because the beach is too crowded. Yuck! 3. You cannot go on top of the pyramids. How can one experience the ancient flavor without the ancient viewpoints? This is a recent development that has been necessitated for two reasons. 1) The site is too crowded. It is filled with unappeciative tourists brought by greedy touring companies. 2) $$$ Hoping to turn a profit from a night show, etc., the ruins are being Disneyfied.

below average ruin (Chichen-itza much better). Go only if you like to waste some time. time much better spent in Merida if you speak rudimentary Spanish.

First, my poor spasmatic back was barely up to the climb to top of what had to be a million steps. I wish I had not attempted that one part of the visit. Otherwise, it was well worth the trip from Playa De Carmen. Knowlegable guides and a magnificant view.

This archaelogical site with the caribbean sea on one side and the tropical jungle on the other is an authentic mystical experience... a must see... a must live...

Tulum is a place where you can experience the richness of the Maya culture while at the same time enjoy one of the most spectacular ocean colors in the world. It's beaches have recently become a refuge for the true laid back.

it's a different experience that's why i will recomend to all my friends to go and experience a new world at least for vacacion time

I like the ocean and tha ruins, I dont like that the cheep places to stay , they are soo rustics, and the good ones they are expensive.

The Tulum experience was a wonderful one, but a big reason for that is we did it as a part of a tour offered on playainfo.com and we had excellent guides who told us about the Mayans, the purpose of the buildings, and it was a fantastic view and a beautiful area. Some say the Tulum ruins are cooler temperature-wise than the inland ruins, although it was still very warm. Try to go early in the day to avoid the sun's heat, if possible.

This place is gorgeous. Bring a camera or two. The view is one that will always be with you, I want to wake up every morning and see that same view. The draw back is only this, IT'S CROWDED, and I mean really crowded. We didn't even go down to the beach because of that reason. I mean here you are in this great place voted 1 of the top ten beaches in the world and you can't get to the beach because of all the people. BUT HEY, paradise is no longer a secret so go and enjoy but just be forwarned to have a pocketful of patience for your journey. You would'nt pass up on going to heaven just because other people are there too, or would you?
