Description

The island of Isla Mujeres is practically an obligatory trip for tourists to Cancún. Just 20 minutes away by ferry, this heavenly island awaits you, offering a host of activities and entertainment along its mile-long stretch of extensive white, sandy beaches, craft shops and jewelers, specialty restaurants, tropical music bars, the reef for diving, swimming with dolphins and an endless number of activities. Ask at your hotel reception for departure timetables. Travel agents might be able to arrange a good package including meals and drinks. You can easily find island accommodation if you like.

Monomalo
By ,
MONOMALO: It is a store on Hildago Ave that sells t-shirts, postcards, etc. Unfortunately after purchasing a very nice t-shirt from the shop, I got home and discovered that the shirt was far too small after washing in cold water and not drying it. I requested from the owners that I would pay for shipping to/from and even compensate them a bit for the exchange. Despite never drying or wearing the t-shirt the owners would not even consider an exchange. I was very disappointed and would not recommend purchasing anything from MONOMALO.

Have to go at least once a year!

Isla is a wonderful island with friendly people, beautiful beaches and many good restaurants. You can get around the island on a golf cart, a moped, bicycle, taxi or on foot. You'll be missing out if you stay in Centro and don't explore the rest of the island. If you only take the party boat from Cancun, you are totally missing the experience. Cancun is too much like Southern California, whereas Isla is much more laid back. Try Mango Cafe across from Guadalupe Church, mid island, Rolandi's on Hildago, Bastos in El Centro and there's a new one coming this season that should be hot, Lola Valentina's in Centro. Try Isla, you'll like it!!

LOVE Isla Mujeres Great food-views-beach
By ,
My husband & I just returned f/ 9 days at Avalon Reef on Isla Mujeres. It was our honeymoon-We really enjoyed ourselves. We still ate at several different locations on the island. All had amazing food. You can use US money there also. Do not use american coins though. Be ready for eating outdoors with no air conditioning. All the restaurants are open air resturants. It is quite nice though! If you eat on the water you are likely to see boats come in with fresh fish. And see them filet the fish right there on the beach! Also the restaurants on the beach, have sand where some of the tables are. You will have to purchase bottled water all over. Don’t let the cab driver charge you much. Most say about $3. Playa Norte beach is most desirable beach on the island. It is beautiful. It has the swing bar- which is really cool. There are some beds on the beach that are nice. We saw several things of interest in the water. We saw stingrays & many fish. The bridge by Avalon reef - has great snorkeling around that area. If you rent snorkeling gear somewhere! Snorkeling around Isla Mujeres is great! Hildago ave has a lot of nice restaurants and shops. Fayne’s has great steaks and lobster! Really cheap too! There are several really good places to eat on the water near the ferry. We never had a bad meal on the island. A lot of restaurants have 2x1 drinks! Bamboo has good food, Fayne's, miramar, ballyhoo- Those are just a few that I remember the name of!! The island is great! The southern tip with the ruins is gorgeous! A must see! The turtle farm was great & only $2. Swimming with the nurse shark was amazing! The food at playa lancheros was amazing! Must rent a golf cart to explore the island. It is about $45 from 9-5. Some places charge more. There is swimming with dolphins down towards the turtle farm. The island may be 5 miles long but it is too much to walk in that heat. A golf cart is a great way to see it all!! We did a jungle tour out of Cancun~ We went to angel reef! Cancun is much busier. We didn't enjoy it. Isla Mujeres has the feeling of a small fishing village. You can safely walk in the streets. Everyone drives golf carts and mopeds. Then the taxi cars. I would definitely return to Isla Mujeres. I can’t wait to go back! Absolutely LOVE the island!! You return home feeling blessed to have air conditioning!! And safe water to drink! Feel free to email me for questions and I have tons of photos to share too!!

My Isla Mujeres jaunt
By ,
I thought it was beautiful! I had never been snorkeling before and thouroughly enjoyed the experience. I loved the little shops on the island--the people are so friendly too! I found some great bargains, got some sun, and got fed by the tour company. I highly recommend it!

Save your money, stay on Cancun
By ,
The "Island of Women" is nothing more than a dot of sand in the middle of nowhere. The first thing thatr you notice is that there are hardly any shade trees. The boat ride is nothing more than another booze cruise. It's to hot with no shade. You may as well stay on Cancun. Much more to do.

Lifetime experience
By ,
Probably one of the best beaches Ive ever seen is located on that Island, its named Playa Norte, it was absolutely beautiful, like nowhere else, not a very crowded beach, there was plenty of water sports, and I believe prices were fair, people as always in Mexico are charming, you can rent a scooter, or golf car, etc. drive around the island, you may find mayan ruins, coral reefs, the closest type of virgin beaches, iguannas everywhere, unimaginable blues on the ocean, great mexican and international restaurants and some of them with excellent prices, and the best of all is that you could get to see the whole island within a day, probably not very deep, but you would get to see the highlights.
