La Destilería gives the Caribbean all the typical flavors of cuisine from Guadalajara, which includes tortas ahogadas (bread filled with a stew, covered in a red hot sauce), stuffed poblano peppers (with cheese, meat or tuna), and fish with coriander. Wash it down with the always-popular national drink, tequila, with over 150 different types available. Specialties: "Chiquihuite Maximiliano," pastries stuffed with chicken, cream cheese and a mushroom that grows on corn (Huitlacoche), native only in this region. Poblano peppers are a side dish. The decor is Old Mexican Hacienda and includes the Museo del Tequila (Tequila Museum) where tequila's history is graphically explained. Mariachis perform from 1pm to 1am. Moderate prices. Parking available.
LOVED the cheese fondu and tequila!!! Everyone should go if in Cancun!! YOU"LL SEE US THERE! The service is better than anywhere in the U.S. and the people love what they do. The food is fantastic and hot!!! Save room for the large and wonderful tequila menu (which is a dinner in itself!)
My friends and I ate at this restaurant about two weeks ago. We ate lunch there. The waiter made us feel welcome and put the knapkin on our laps. We felt like we were in a fancier restaurant. The food was great. There was lots of it. The price was just right. We will go there again the next time we go to Cancun.
We not only loved the food, but we loved the atmosphere. Couldn't have asked for a better evening. We've told all our friends that will be visiting Cancun to eat here. The employees were exceptionally nice.
