Im a cajun food fanatic and the food was great. The problem is the size of the place is too small and the wait on weekends is long......Didnt like the crab claw in the gumbo but it was good. Service is not so good though.....
The only thing good here is the boiled crawfish.
The rest of the food is bland. They don't even have 1/3 of the menu items. The food takes forever and the service is horrible. I forgot to add that it was way overpriced.
I ate there last night again. I had not been there for about a year due to the horrible service I got last time. It took us 1 hour and 50 minutes to get our meal finished. We got an appetizer and were eating it when a couple came in and sat beside us. We had already been there about 15 minutes. Well our waiter sat down with the couple and started talking. After a while he went and got their meals. I asked about our meals. He said he would go check. About 10 minutes later he came out and filled our neighbors drinks. Not a word to us. And we were drinking sweet tea, no alcohol. Another 15 minutes went by. I finally got his attention again and he checked and came back and said our order had not got in. He would get in in. Quite a while after our neighbors had already ate and left and more people were beside us eating our meals came. And I had to ask to get my bill. He never apologized. We stayed calm and polite. Last night we were in the area and said we would try it again. Meal was good, service was good. But today I was on the internet looking at our banking account and I noticed we had gotten charged twice. I called over there and got the rudest person on the line. He told me they were busy and he didn't have time to deal with me. If I didn't like it call the owner. The bad service and getting charged twice wasn't near as bad as how rude he was. Unbelievable.
Well let me tell you, that was the best crawfish! My family decided we were in the mood for some crawfish and oysters. We got to Jubilee Joe's and was seated right away. They brought us our 3 lbs of crawfish and my 8 and 10 year olds dug right in. They were just right- covered with great spice. My 2 boys lips were bright red and burning by the time they were through digging out the meat. I ordered chargrilled oysters with white wine sauce and parmesian. The first batch they brought out were slightly burned - I heard the waitors arguing about it with the cook before he brought them out. When he delivered them, he said he knew they were not great - they would bring out more in a minute. He said he didn't the boys to be hungry while we ate the crawfish. He said they were cooking some more for us -they brought out 3 then later 5 more oysters. My eight year old gobbled down the last 5. We ordered their bread pudding dessert (which was to die for!!) and the waitor said the house would pay forit because of the oysters.
I read the earlier review, I guess it must have been a bad day because we had great service and the food was great. The waitor was attentive and very polite. I would recommend going to Jubilee Joe's if your in the mood for cajun crawfish and oysters.
After church yesterday we decided to try a new place we had heard of called Jubilee Joe’s. We had read some good reviews and were looking forward to finding a good place for all-you-can-eat crawfish. So we walk in with excited anticipation and meet a friend who was also excited about finding a good place for good crawfish. We were in for a huge surprise and disappointment.
Before spending $22 on the meals we asked to sample the crawfish and they brought out 3 that were pretty good. So we place our order and after waiting patiently for an hour I finally asked how much longer it would be before we could get the food. It was brought out with in 5 minutes of me asking. And that it is when the real fun begins.
Our guest’s crawfish alfredo was cold and the crawfish were small and chewy like they were frozen, and the dish was not seasoned. I ate two crawfish, one bite of potato, one bite of corn and my wife did the same, she may have eaten 3 crawfish. They tasted completely different from the sample ones. It didn’t taste like there was seasoning on any of it, and not good enough to eat. So I asked to talk with the manager.
A guy in nasty sweatpants, dirty t-shirt, ball cap, and dripping with sweat came out and asked very rudely what the problem was. Another reason to lose an appetite. He later said his name was Cash and he was the owner.
When I described to him what I have written above he goes nuts. He said no one has complained in four f***ing years. Yes, he screamed and cussed in front of my wife and guest, and his other patrons, including small children. He just couldn’t believe that we didn’t like it. I offered to pay for the drinks since we did consume them, but asked to not pay for the food since it was not worth eating.
He again, got furious and yelled and cursed in front of everyone, so we laid money on the table for the drinks and tried to leave. As we crossed the threshold Cash storms out after us and calls the police saying that we are running out on the tab. So now after waiting for an hour for food we are still starving but can’t leave because we have to wait on police.
While waiting, a very nice guy, claiming to be Cash’s brother came out to find out what was going on. Cash came out to join us, and when his brother requested to Cash that we be able to leave since we didn’t eat the food. He started yelling, cursing and screaming. Yes, this is the guy claiming he is the owner.
Hoover police showed up and we explained the story, and the law states if owner insist we have to pay for what we ordered. So, we did what we had to and paid the bill, but will never be back. I want to urge everyone who reads this, for the sake of your taste buds, wallet, time, and family, please do not go to Jubilee Joe’s, and warn your family and friends.
This place is the best kept seafood secret in Birminham, Al. The menu provides great fresh cajun seafood. If spicy is what you are looking for, this is the place for you. The atmosphere is simple, so don't go there looking to be dazzled by excentric decorations, although there are plenty of lcd tv's with hd sports channels playing. HD sports, good beer, & great food is all I need to be happy.
