Jack MacKerel's Island Grill, Kure Beach

Great food! A group of us ate there while on a fishing trip and we really liked it. The portions are big but some of the entrees can get a little pricey. They had really good specials and great drinks.

I contacted Jack Mackerels in hope of finding a nice area restaurant that would take a reservation for our large wedding party on a Saturday evening (sine NONE of the other restautants were interested). I spoke with Mgr. Beverly and she was very gracious and accomodating. On the wedding day we showd up as planned with about 35 out-of-town guests. Beverly and staff made sure that we all sat together. Even though this was a busy August weekend, the service was great and the food was wonderful as expected. I want to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff and management (especially Beverly) of Jack Mackerels. You helped make our wedding day a great experience. Went to Jack Mackerels for lunch on Saturday and all I can say is average at best. Nothing spectacular going on here. We ordered the crab dip to start with and it arrived with nicely toasted garlic bread but the crab dip was missing the most important ingredient....CRAB! It was mostly cream cheese and parmesan with very little crab meat. For the price of the starter you would expect to have more crab meat and less cheese. Deciding not to order anything else we left and went for a walk on the beach.

First time this weekend at jack mackerels, won't be the last! Food was delicious and the server was great. Our kids were calling him by name by the end of the meal! If you have never eaten here you need to try it out.

the food was good but our appetizer was brought at the same time as our salads, felt like we were rushed through our entire dinner. even though we have kids, they behave well enough to last through a one hour dinner. if we wanted fast food, we would have gone for fast food, we would have.

So I have lived at the beach for 6 years. I have always loved to eat here. NOT ANYMORE!!!!! Just went there this weened. 4 days later I check my banking and realized their server has fudged her tip to show double. OH DONT WORRY IM CALLING THE MANAGER! I HATE LIARS. I am a fantastic tipper. I usually always do 20% unless i have bad service. I did not have bad service from her so i left 20%. she must think I'm stupid but she has another thing coming! I HATE LIARS!!!!!!!! IF YOU EAT HERE, FOOD IS FANTASTIC BUT WATCH YOUR TIP, MAY WANT TO LEAVE IT AS CASH ON TABLE AND WRITE THAT ON YOUR TICKET! GOOD LUCK!

Pasta Primavera was good. After service/food at another local restaurant the previous day, this was a welcome relief. Nice covered outside dining.

The Kure Beach hot spot is Jack Mackerel's and I am at a loss to understand why. The service is spotty unless you sit at the bar. The food is very good though. I cannot emphasize that enough. The main complaint here is the erratic quality of service. A manager named Beverly was possibly the nicest person to ever take an interest in me while I was dining. But on the flip side two men named Tom and Bill sat at the end of the bar acting like drunken asses who owned the joint while the bartender continued to serve them well past their limit. Then someone informed me that Tom WAS the owner and Bill was his main man in the kitchen. How disgraceful to carry on in such a manner at your place of employment. I liked the food the couple of times I was in there. But if the owner and kitchen manager cannot be bothered to care about what people think of their restaurant then I cannot be bothered to ever step foot in either one of Tom's restaurants. He also owns the Old Pier House.

This place was great. The prices were resonable, service and food was very good, and atmosphere was great. The waitress was very good at making sure our glasses were kept full and made a recommendation to probably the greastest bar on earth. I will definitley visit this place again on my next trip.

My husband and I vacationed in Carolina Beach last summer. Of the 8 days we were there, we visited Jack Mack's 4 times. Every time was great- food-service-atmosphere. You just can't go wrong with that place. We're going back in August and can't wait to visit Jack Mack's again!!!
