Wine Market Bistro
Wine Market Bistro is a unique cafe, wine bar and wine shop all under one roof. We proudly offer over 30 wines by the glass and a 900 bottle selection in the wine shop. Most restaurants charge 300% or more for wine! At The Wine Market guests can enjoy amazing wines for only $9 over the wine shop price! This is a great savings for any wine lover. We feature a beautiful courtyard patio in the warmer months and a sophisticated Soho Loft like dining area inside all year. Have been to this excellent South Baltimore restaurant several times and have always had great food here. While a meal here is not inexpensive, I always feel as if the cost is reasonable given the quality of the meal. Also, the restaurant is attached to a wine store, and for only $7.50 corkage (apparently the corkage fee has now gone up to $9 - still a pretty good deal), you can select anything in the store to have with your meal. Yes, retail prices in the store are on the high side, but the price overall still ends up being a deal by Baltimore standards (where restaurant mark-ups tend to be on the high side), and you are also assured of an excellent bottle of wine with your meal.
The only crticism I would make has to do with the service here. While generally pretty good, the restaurant recently engaged in a very amaturish practice for Valentine's Day. Obviously very interested in turning tables as quickly as possible on such a busy night, the wait staff did everything they could to hurry diners along. Our waiter would re-pour our wine after nearly every sip we took, and at one point she asked my companion if she was done with her entree, when she was still chewing her food (and had food on her plate). Later, another waiter asked my companion during dessert if she was almost done with her dessert (when she was clearly still enjoying it, but apparently not quickly enough). Talk about annoying. I have never had anything like this experience previously at this otherwise fine restaurant, and can only attribute it to a busy holiday evening.
I will certainly go here again, but.... never on another holiday evening.
One of my favorite restaurants in Baltimore! The food is a bit pricey, but EXCELLENT. I have been twice and am consistently impressed with the wine as well as the quality of the food. My husband and I are vegetarians and unfortunately, there is only one vegetarian entree option, but it always very, very good. My one suggestion to the restaurant would be to increase the number of vegetarian options.
All in all, I would highly recommend this restaurant.
