What a total and complete disappointment ! Its simply just another tourist trap. The food was barely average, and the prices were insane for quantity and quality.... There are many other respectable, reasonable establishments there to eat, where you will get what you pay for and enjoy it.

This is by far the best place to eat in Deadwood. Also, there grill open for breakfast or lunch is just exceptional. We tried several places in Deadwood and were very disapointed in their food. Jakes is first class the service is impeccablae and the ambiance is something to see.

We had terrible food and service. T-bone was fatty and marinated piece of cheap meat. Very skimpy portions. We never did get our drinks, but they added on a 20% gratuity for their not so fine service. DO NOT GO THERE! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL!

The atmosphere is nice, but the lack of a dress code was kinda sad. Seniors wearing fanny packs and ball caps mixed with people in suits and evening gowns?? The piano player was good and added a nice touch. Menu was limited, but three extra evening special's rounded it out. The drink/wine list was extensive and there was something for evey price range. Service was good and not slow as other reviews have stated. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer and it was above average. The 4 shrimp were large and the bacon was cooked just right. The sauce was ok. We chose soup vs. one of the salads and it had very little seasoning and was nothing special. My dish (cajun shrimp and scallop cheese tortellini) was very good. My wifes (veal oso bucco) was bland, but tender. We skipped dessert as the meals were larger than I had expected. Overall for the money it was a good meal. There is nowhere else in Deadwood that could match a meal here.

Went to Jakes Dec. 2008 during a ski trip. The crab stuffed walleye was absolutely horrible. This is very odd because I love both crab and walleye. Walleye almost tasted like it had been freezer burnt. Also, there were not many menu choices. For a place with 10 items on the menu they all better be good and that wasnt the case. I really did like the atmosphere at Jakes. It was a fairly formal upscale restraunt with a piano player. Four/five course meals. Maybe I picked the wrong item on the menu........ Maybe not.

Premier dining

We have eaten here twice and loved the decor, service and menu. Food presentation and quality are top notch. We ate upstairs and the place was packed! It is our understanding that this restaurant is owned by Kevin Costner? Elegant and pricey. Worth every penny for the experience.

We were just there in July for our girls vacation. My sister and myself and her two daughters. We decided to give it a try, however we didn't have a reservation..We were lucky and got a table. It was wonderful. We were treated as if we were queens. The service was great, the food was wonderful. It was so much fun and dining there was the high light of our trip. If you go to Deadwood, you really have to dine at Jakes.. You need a reservation...and its well worth it..

Had Thanksgiving dinner there Nov. 2007. Food was exceptional and so was the service. Ate there again for Christmas dinner Dec. 2007. Food was exceptional but service was lousy. The service, as always, just all depends on the food server you get and, they get tipped accordingly. We will go back because the ambience and great food is worth it. Won't let one bad experience ruin it for us.
