On a positive note the hotel was clean and the rooms and pool areas were nice. Overall it was a frustrating experience though – service was lacking (they seemed to be understaffed) and they have the worst computer system.
We had a Bachelorette party of 10 and rented 1 suite and 2 rooms. We tried to check-in early but two of the rooms weren’t ready. Thank goodness we had 1 room where we could put our bags and access our belongings while we waited. We came back at 3pm to check-in thinking they were holding our rooms on the 16th floor only to find out that their antiquated computer system wouldn’t allow them to hold the rooms so we had to stand in line for 2 HOURs and 12 MINUTES to REcheck-in and ended up with rooms on the 4th floor overlooking the ugly roofs. The good news was the line for the elevators for the lower floor weren’t half as bad as the lines for the elevators to the upper floors.
We thought we’d hang out by the pool while we were waiting but there were no chairs available and not a lot of shade. A chair rental is $75 and if you want an umbrella it’s an addition $75 – forget that. We had a reservation for a cabana the next day ($625) and it was worth every penny of it. We got there early and noticed that people GRAB/SAVE chairs – you’re not supposed to but it is not enforced so get there early if you don’t have a cabana and want a ‘free’ lounge chair.
Room service…. Plan ahead for room service – it took 2 HOURS and $2.50 to get a bottle opener sent up to our room. It took over 2 HOURS to get one of two rollouts sent up to our suite (they forgot the second rollout – that took another HOUR) – and mind you they were notified ahead of time that we needed them in the room.
The Mix – we had a $1000 tab – for the bottles of vodka they provided a couple different types of juices. For that price it would have been nice if they could have ‘MIX ED’ us a couple cosmos….
Talk about nickel and diming – minimum $5 charge to print your boarding pass …. It was this type of stupid stuff that drove me bonkers…
The Mandaylay Bay is a beautiful hotel but it is defiently not a family friendly hotel. But for a nice vacation away from the kids, this hotel would be perfect, with beautiful rooms, delicous food, and amazing entertainment:)
I stayed there for 5 nights and the room service is bad. i got my room at 5pm after waiting for 3 hours as they said it was not ready yet even though it was reserved two months prior. They gave me a 25 dollar gift card which i could not use in the store. they said that i have to redeem it on the way out. on top of it, i forgot my diamond earing in the bathroom and called the lost and found and no one answered the phone. After leaving voicemail no one got back to me.
Not staying there again. :(
The Mandalay Bay is a beautiful hotel but I agree that it is not family friendly at all! None of the bathrooms have changing tables and I forgot dish soap to wash my babys bottles and was told that I would have to walk down to the walgreens past the MGM! (at 7am). The spa was amazing and I would for sure go back even if I don't stay in the hotel again.
There's nothing really special about Mandalay Bay. It's close to the airport so you can watch planes if you like as they fly outside your window. We arrived later in the day so didn't get the King room we wanted but they did put us in one for our second night - only problem was the toilet had a faulty knob making it hard to flush. No coffee maker so coffee lovers be prepared to head to one of the Starbucks located in the lobby for you morning fix. I'd write more about the hotel but there's really not much to say about it. It does have a nice pool area but we didn't get to it. My wife booked through Priceline and the staff seemed to not want to deal with us, I had asked about a promo they had and they told me to deal with Priceline since I booked through them. You'd think they would be a bit more concerned with their customers. As it is, I can't recommend this place as it's just a plain hotel on the strip that has nothing going for it and if you get a room, better get a low numbered one because from the elevator you can be walking a mile to get to the higher numbered rooms (the hallways are very long)
Just got back from Vegas and the Bayside Buffet is the best in town, the Best food of all the buffets that we tried. We make sure we eat at least one meal here, this was our second trip and wish I could go back just to eat here. The Best fan tail fried shrimp ever.
Everything was clean, the staff was always nice.
Love the Mandalay Bay, Love the restaurants also. Didn't care for the spa services, had their signature facial and the next day my skin was so dry and uncomfortable I couldn't stand it. We saw Mamma Mia, and unless you're an ABBA fan, don't really recommend it.
I stayed at The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. I love the new upgades in each room. We had Guys weekend this past weekend. I love the clubs The Mix, Rum Jungle, and catch the tram to LAX. I love the beach at Mandalay bay.
