First mistake was I had the pot roast, half was cold it had been sitting out too long. And it had zero flavor. My wife had a fried seafood combo plate totally flavorless. We should have gone to happy s pizza for seafood. Coleslaw was sour.
First time visitor & made reservations on line 7/16/2011. Rec'd confirmation immediately. My friend & I were greeted outside by the valet and upon entering the hostess seated us at once. Within 2 mins. our waiter, Justin T. greeted us & covered the specials. The decor was very relaxing, lighting, color scheme soothing. The staff were friendly, professional, treated us like regulars. The almondine crusted tilapia & house salad fantastic, portions ample, presentation beautiful. Left just enough room for the Mitchell's fabulous strawberry shortcake which rated a gold star. The prices were reasonable per the quality, portions, and freshness. Kudos to mgmt for having a great staff!!! I will be back soon.
Food was decent but not great. A little more expensive than average. The atmosphere is a bit loud, so if you don't mind that its a comfortable setting. Just don't plan to have an intimate dinner where people can hear each other.
I read a few reviews on numerous sites and procured a great opinion on Mitchell's Fish Market in Northville, Michigan. It's a shame that these opinions were completely, completely wrong. We we greeted by John Fitzsimmonson, the owner. As a first time guest, he offered to buy me a glass of wine. My wife and I thought this was a great guesture, but guess what, wrong again. He proceeded to give the wine to a seperate couple near us and gave us a bill for the glass! We were already seated and had ordered, so we simply disregarded this absurdety. I had the wild perch and it was thouroughly undercooked. Our waitress literally snarled at me when I brought this up as she grabbed my plate. Needless to say we won't be going near Mitchell's. We heard about Bonefish Grill in Novi and went for the first time this past week. The place was kind of hard to find, but boy was it worth it!! Mike was our waiter and he was both very funny and intelligent. I had a great meal and recommend Bonefish to everyone that believes Mitchell's is any good at all!
Our table was near the kitchen - which I was surprised to see is fairly open to the dining area. This adds to the noise level in the dining room, and it ends up being pretty loud. I even had a hard time hearing the waitress a few times. The lighting was pretty bright too...Though they were dimmed part way through dinner. I felt like I was under a spot light during the first part of our meal.
We've only been the one time, so I'm not sure if this is the usual ambiance, but (so far) I don't think this is a great place for a quiet dinner with the family. I think we'll sit in the bar next time. It looked a little more intimate.
The dinners were all pretty good though. We all agreed that the flavors were great, but maybe a little over priced. I think you can get the same quality for a few bucks less per plate at some other places within the 275 corridor. I had the tuna (blackened) - it was awesome. My fiance's soup was a little cold, but she loved the Shrimp and Scallop Americana.
Our desserts were frick'n excellent! The Creme Brulee and the Banana Bread Pudding are both worth coming back for. I could see us having desserts and martinis here pretty often.
Overall...we will be back, but it was a little disappointing considering the average price of a dinner. For the money I think I would suggest Steve and Rocky's. For less money, but equally great food (if not better) Bonefish Grill, in Novi, is probably the best choice.
I've been here a few times, and the food and service are always excellent. The prices are what you would expect for good, fresh seafood (about $18-25 a person) and the portions are huge. Got the Sharkfin pie for dessert and it was amazing. Could have fed 3-4 people it's so big and rich. I would definately come back here for a special occasion.
Great food but stay in the bar. My wife and I love their food. The infused pineapple and vanilla vodka martini is to die for. There are few restaurants in town that have fresher fish. Each time we go, the quality is always consistent and delicious. A gin martini and peal and eat shrimp is a great way for us to catch up on our week and enjoy are time together. The staff is attentive but not overbearing. They seem to know when to stop by and when to let our conversation wind down.
The only flaw with the Mitchell’s Fish Market chain is the cafeteria style dining area. We prefer the more relaxed, quiet, and intimate atmosphere of the bar area. At times the dining room is almost too loud to hold a conversation.
Don’t let that stop you, just head for the bar and you will enjoy your evening out.
