I am careful to rate and write a review that looks poorly on a resturant but this one was deserving and had expectations to live up to. We had spent over $150 on 2 other meals at La Barraca and Billy's Stone Crab and we did not mind paying those bills because we had a great experience. We spent $120 here and felt (got) ripped off.
First off a good thing. Our server, Crystal, knew the menu and caught up with us on a timely basis.
VALUE killed this place. For the prices they asked, we expected exceptional food. Here is the break down and comments:
2x$12 - Lychee-tini: Very good though about a $10 drink considering Lychee came from a can available at local oriental grocery stores for $3
1x$12 - Crab Rangoon: yea, $12. 9 pieces, served borderline warm/less warm and not much substance. We were told they used Alaskan King Crab...I know that taste and was very hit an miss. Good duck sauce. Our guess is worth about $7
1x$4 Miso Soup: pretty good...still $3 at best. They had $7 Edamame in small tin.
1x$6.50 Smoked Salmon sushi: Bingo...this was great and priced well
1x$13.00 Hamachi Jal Roll: Taste was good, but expected a more heat to the jalepeno, fish was great, vegatables crisp. Average
1x$24 Sesame Chicken: Absolute train wreck. Chicken was fried which is okay but was very chewy or tough. Sauce was good. Brown or white rice included or for an extra fee, 'special tatu fried rice' can be added...see next one
1x$10 Tatu Fried Rice: Our 'special' addition had capers, small amount of chicken, and a few shrimp. We could not figure out what type of oil was used to cook the rice. Both of us had a few bites and did not care for much more. For the additional cost, this just did not work.
1x$12 Mojito: Average but Miami has high standards for this drink. Bartenders should know how to knock one out of the park here but got a double base hit.
1x$8.50 Absolute and Tonic: hard to mess up and they did not...its was good.
$120; we got ripped off as mentioned...VALUE.
