All of these reviews are WRONG!! I stumbled across this amazing find of an eatery 2 years ago and have tried almost everything on their menu. It is true that they needed to raise their prices, but tacking on a quarter for their (now $4.50) lunch specials is not a huge raise in price.
If you are a type a Chinese food eater that wants the teriyaki chicken or sweet and sour pork, this is NOT your kind of place. If you are ADVENTEROUS, and have a wide palate for food, you MUST go here! I would strongly recommend the Singapore Style fried rice noodles, Chicken or Beef Curry over rice, ANY of their fried Udon plates, Baked Chicken and spaghetti, ANY Hot Pot, Wonton with noodle soup, and the Fishball Seaweed Soup. The soups have delicate flavors...so don't expect mounds of ginger, onion and garlic.
If you go between 11-2:30pm there is a $4.50 lunch special that gives you 6 options of entrees and comes with your choice of hot or cold tea, milk tea, or coffee. They are all fabulous! From 2:30 until 5:30pm there is Yummy Guide’s version of Dim Sum where you can get small portions of over 50 items for $1.50-$2.75, or a combo ranging from $3.25 to $3.75. Drinks are separate during this time. After 5:30pm they are open until 2am with a full menu and beer served until 11pm.
The staff and managers of the restaurant are kind yet to the point. Know what you want to order, be okay if your preconception of your meal is different than the reality. DO NOT EXPECT THIS TO BE LIKE ANY OTHER CHINESE FOOD YOU HAVE EVER TRIED, and you will enjoy yourself immensely.
I went there the first time and the food just tasted horrible. So I thought I'd give it another try because my friend said its so good. HA, I trusted my instincts again and ordered only the desserts. Smart move for me. My friends did somewhat enjoyed what they ordered, but they were not as satisfied with their dishes. Overall, service is still the same smiley, nice workers and this time the food was edible. With the exceptions of drinks and desserts, I will never ever order anything to eat over there. The prices are reasonably cheap. I'd say they improved a little bit.
I order a Ginger dessert when I went to Yummy Guide and it did not taste right, it was NASTY! I spoke with the waitress and told her about it and she told the owner to go to my table. When I explained it to the owner, she said that her chef specifically made this cause I order it and that she cannot return it! Also, my friend had told me that they raised their prices on everything - not worth it! Go somewhere else!
