Just remember that all reviews about any place or product are all subjective. It will take a lot more than a couple of people from the same party writing 5 separate bad reviews to keep me from going to any place. Don't get caught up in the drama and go experience this place for yourself. It is delightful and charming. i love this place and am so thankful it is available for my consumption. Would recommend anyone to go here at any time. Keep up the excellent work

After reading the poor reviews I felt compelled to post one of my own. My oldest son and his family live in Wilmington and I have taken my taken my granddaughter and then both my daughter-in-law and granddaughter to this lovely place. Tea has a wonderful heritage as an act of soothing the spirit and teaching manners and gentility. It seems pretty obvious to me that the group of young adults that raised such a comotion really have no place in such an establishment. Their behavior demonstated their ignorance and lack of manners--which is rampant these days. I had a wonderful experience both times I have taken guests. The food, service, and atmosphere were great!!!!!

I visited the tea room for lunch today with two of my friends and was witness to the most appalling display of ignorance and hostility I could imagine. An obnoxious group of young people arrived nearly an hour late for their reservation. (I know this because when we walked in without a reservation we were asked to return in 45 minutes to accommodate the large group.) Although two members of the party had arrived on time, all the rest just walked in, as if everyone would drop everything for them. Our table was immediately next to the group, so we heard every word of conversation. They were so angered by being asked to please proceed with their order that they began to berate their waitresss and make ridiculous demands! For a moment it was as if we had encountered a toddler tea party. W... (more)hen my friend complained about the group's loud and disruptive behavior, the manager apologized and promised to try to keep the group calm. No luck! They yelled at their waitress that they 'should have gone to Golden Corral.' (Quite right, you should have. Your group would fit right in.) They purposely dropped flatware to the floor, to be retrieved by the waitress. They ordered multiple drinks each, for the sole purpose of 'making more work' for the staff. Finally, the manager was forced to ask the group to leave. We could have hugged her! This tea room is a beautiful, classic example of what a fine Tea Room should be. It is not the place for loud and obnoxious behavior, crude language, and bad manners. When you visit, expect this wonderful staff to treat you like a guest. The food is outstanding; the prices are reasonable. Visit soon and visit often! - Diane K. 02/08/09

Felt excited and happy to be there when I walked in and felt shaken, upset and hungry when I left. All I can say it if you want to spend $16 for a school lunch and poor service from the management...then this is the place for you. I would like to say also however that our actual waitress was great and I am sorry that she got lumped into the overall dissatisfaction, the tone was set by the manager the minute I walked in and because of our displeasure I'm sure we were a difficult table for her to handle. I will never return to this resturant and would tell everyone I can how poorly I was treated.

I was at the Tea Room when this transpired and heard the group of young rude kids saying they were going to give bad reviews and trash the place. How very sad. My curiosity got the best of me today as I checked to see if they did. A true professional would have not acted so immaturely in a restaurant environment, nor would they post such a poorly written and libel filled review. The Wilmington Tea Room is a very lovely restaurant, with a large assortment of teas, and delicious food. The owner is almost always on site, which is so refreshing, as you know you are well taken care of. If you are in the area, this quaint restaurant on the river will give you the true feeling of southern hospitality.

The last review was obviously written by one of the staff members at the Tea Room. Just proving our point that this establishment is being by managed by some extremely unprofessional and rude people. I’ve never in my entire life been treated so poorly. In the hard economic times we are facing, going to a “Tea Room” is most deffinatlty a luxury. The food served was similar to a lunch that my Mother prepared for me in elementary school. That was fine as I was not expecting exquisite cuisine. However, I was expecting impeccable ambiance, elegance and service. We receive none of that. Also, twenty minutes is hardly close to an hour late. Had we been approached with some courtesy we would have gone out of our way to accommodate your schedule. But from the minute we walked in we felt rushed and unwelcome. It was also very interesting to see the manager and staff member outside smoking cigarettes right in front of the entrance as we drove away. Hmm, Classy joint? Calling paying customers “FOOLS” was a very nice touch. I could really care less about your personal thoughts on whether or not we conduct ourselves in a professional manor. The bottom line is we were customers and you are in the service industry. We should have been treated with kindness and respect and that didn’t happen. I will make sure to share my experience with everyone I know and I know all of the ladies there yesterday will do the same.
