I can not say enough about Moondoggies, my wife and I spent a couple of days in the Beaufort area. My wife found Moondoggies Cafe on the internet. We drove from Beaufort to Port Royal and had dinner. WONDERFUL atmosphere, staff was excellent and friendly. The food was excellent and well prepared. I will definitely be coming back to next time we are in town. I posted a picture of the front entrance.
Amazing Place, comfortable upscale place without the upscale price! Wednesday is Prime Rib Night, with a special Prime Rib for 2 persons for $28. Unbelievable value and superior quality. Oh, and the pickle chips are a must as is the homemade desserts.
This place is special, one of the wonderful jewels that you sometimes are lucky enough to find. Located in an large historic low country style home that has been converted into a cozy friendly little restaurant. Your wait staff is likely to be one of the owners and they will make sure your visit is enjoyable, catering to you and your delight of their surprisingly good and reasonably priced food. Get the pickle chips if yu dare as they are highly addictive.
The lunch menu is mostly sandwiches (the steak sandwich is fantastic as is the oyster poor boy) and soups (lobster bisque is heavenly)! Dinner is more upscale entrees such as Filet Minion (amazing) and Mahi Mahi. Tuesday nights have a seafood platter special for two consisting of shrimp, oysters (these fried oyster are the best I have ever had anywhere in the world) and fish (blackened, grilled, or fried) fries and coleslaw all for a total of $21. Friday and Saturday nights there is live piano or guitar music. They are known localy for their great homemade desserts (friends seem to love the specialty cheesecake, but the chocolate chip brownie or death by chocolate brownie are sinful).
Having eating at some of the best restraints in the world, I still find Moondoggies to be a delightful experience that we look forward to each week. Matt...
When in Port Royal, I love to eat here. Their food is delicioius, and the staff is very friendly. Typically I have lunch here. However, one Friday night I met friends here, and the owner (I believe that is who he was) was playing accustic guitar with his son (I think). It was a very nice atmosphere. You are walking distance from a popular spot...the Sands.
