South Charleston Museum
Within walking distance of the Adena/Hopewell Native American burial mound, the South Charleston Museum features changing exhibitions, children's activities, workshops and more. All exhibitions, programming and operations take place inside the historic Art Deco-era LaBelle Theatre, which houses both the museum and the South Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau. Archives are available by appointment only. The exhibitions are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The only museum in the world that regularly presents films by or about West Virginians. Plus the only museum in the Kanawha Valley area that showcases regional history, including the diverse culture. A must see! Worth the drive!!!! Amazing what can be done only a very little budget and only one staff person. Very small, but nicely done displays. Programs are A+. Be sure to make an appointment to see the archives. The museum is free, plus most exhibits, but film events usually run around $2 per person. A real bargain. The museum is in an old theatre, and is within easy walking distance of the South Charleston Mound and antique shops.
We have visited the South Charleston Museum several times and have always enjoyed the wide variety of the exhibits plus the many events that the museum hosts. The workshops and childrens activities are a lot of fun for the whole family.Check out the gift shop before leaving!

The South Charleston Museum is a link to the past.....the settling of the town of South Charleston......Many do not realize its connection with the Belgian immigrants who came to this country in the early 1900's, bringing with them their glass cutting and glass blowing skills....The museum tells us the story of this interesting past.
Also, the Museum is the only organization in the area that sponsors the Road Show Antique Appraisal Fair in October of each year. This event is quite fitting, because of all of the local antique shope in the valley.
Don't mioss this event on October 8th...call the museum for details.....we wouldn't miss it for the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The museum provides a very valuable link to the history of South Charleston and the entire Kanawha valley area. I have visited several times and have always come away impressed as well as more knowledgable of our history and culture. I am amazed at the variety of displays and exhibits that have been featured by the museum.
