I brought my nephew to do museum, and it was great because they give a paper for kids to go on a treasure hunt - my nephew got all excited, and we spent a long time looking at all the stuff and learning about Washington a little bit more.
There is a place for kids there, where they can play on the computer, etc.
It is a great way to learn!
This multifaceted institution provides a broad overview of Washington State History with excellent permanent exhibits, traveling exhibits, and interactive learning for children and curious adults. Western and Eastern Washington, despite their marked differences in climate and geography, are both well represented. On the top floor a huge model railroad exhibit memorializes the area's railroading past. It is fascinating for model rail buffs as well as those interested in history. Rotating exhibits are varied, from Hillary on Everest to Native American Heritage. A recent visitor to Tacoma from New York saw this Museum first and decided to spend all day at it; seems like a good recommendation. The rest of the small group split their time between WSHM, the Tacoma Art Museum, and their other favorite, the International Museum of Glass, which are all a short walk away.
