Painted Lady, The
Southern flair characterizes every lunch, dinner, and afternoon tea served at this gaily colored, fine dining tea room and restaurant that also includes an extraordinary gift emporium. A wide variety of tea is available, as well as traditional and trendy sandwiches and dressier dishes for dinner, such as fennel-crusted tuna and rum-soaked pork chops. They are open Tuesday through Sunday for lunch and dinner; closed on Mondays.
I've been going to the Painted lady for over 5 years and I just love it. I've had my sister's bridal shower there, my sister's baby shower there, my baby shower there and just fun get togethers with my family and friends..I just love it.
The Hoover Family has reopened the Painted Lady Restaurant. They have reinvented the Painted Lady with updates to the interior decor. Also one of the original chef's Mickey Vernon is back. The food is out of this world! The Free Range Chicken Breast with Fried Green Tomatoes, Risotto, and lemon butter sauce was delightful. The Lady is Open!
6 adults went at 11:00am, 4 out of the 6 got shrimp and grits (w/ a muffin) and over an hour later for $12.95 we got a little bowl of warm (not hot) grits with 3 shrimp on top. We were all very disappointed!!! It took our waitress a total of 35 minutes to get our bills together and check out. We were there 2 hours and 15 minutes. It was terrible service. We will never go back!
The outside appearace stands out from the other buildings. You can spot it easily driving down the street: a pink and purple house!
When you walk inside, the entryway is a bit cramped, but the dining rooms are exquisitely decorated. The service was wonderful, and the food was unique and delicious, although a bit expensive, but worth every penny!
The first sight of The Painted lady is a little shocking, its purple and pink exterior almost seeming to violate the area around it. But as you pass the wicker chairs on the porch and open the front door, you realize you've stepped into a place from the past. Set in a renovated Victorian, there are plenty of dining vignettes to choose from. Each room's decor is slightly different. Lots of windows, along with crisp white linens and bright china, keep the rooms bright and inviting.
The staff is very attentive and the food is above average. While the lunch menu is pretty typical, and very reasonably priced, it is the afternoon tea plate and dinner entrees that will really knock your socks off. On any day, you will find a variety of people at this dynamic little hole-on-the-street, from business men to playgroup moms. My family likes to celebrate anything girly there and we are always pleased.
The best part of the day is heading upstairs to the gift areas when you've finally pushed the plates away. With a variety of feminine fine gifts, and a whole room devoted to the the best Boyd's Bear selection in town, it's a perfect end to a very pleasant experience.
