Robert Todd Lincoln, the eldest son of President Abraham & Mary Todd Lincoln, built this 24-room stately Georgian Revival mansion on a promontory overlooking the Battenkill Valley. The Lincoln's 1,000-pipe organ, installed in the entrance hall at Hildene in 1908, is believed to be the oldest residential pipe organ with a player attachment still in its original location and still in working order in the United States.

A remarkable, heart warming American story
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/26/07
Hildene is not just an impressive estate. It is a home filled with the warmth and fascinating story of Abraham Lincoln's family, their life in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The atmosphere is not of mere wealth but reflects the Lincoln family's comfort, pride, and stability. The location overlooking a deep Vermont valley is breathtaking. This is a tour that enables our children to feel American history and reminds adults of a remarkable time of progress and change for our country. We have toured Hildene three times over the years and are fascinated each time. A remarkable American landmark.
