BEST little coffee shop in 100 miles
By Steve, 08/26/09
After traveling on an extented summer holiday, I was getting sick and tired of crappy coffee. No apologies -- I'm a coffee snob. But then to my delight and salvation, as invested a few exhausing days into Zion National Park, a local recommended The Mean Bean as the place to be if you worship the bean. This place makes a good cup of coffee. The price is right (not that it matters) and it is all fair trade + organic, etc. All this matters alot, but there is more thant makes this little local hole-in-the-wall shop a true treasure. Good coffee is an art, and it takes good people to make good art. The owners have been in town and making coffee for a long time. They are a well spring of not only that dark ambrosiac beverage of the bean, but alos the thick stuff of local lore. Over cups of god-like morning glory they freely offered suggestions of 'secret' back-country hiking trails where neigh a single summer Zion tourist would be sighted. Later (when I had earned my exhaustion) there were recommendations for the best art galleries in town. If all you want is a REALLY GOOD cup of coffee, this is the place to be. If you are looking for something more, then you really do not want to miss this local treasure

The best coffee within 100 miles of Zion
By Alex, 08/26/09
The coffee was quite tasty, and the people were freindly and full of good local information. Prices were cheap, coffee is Fair Trade and Organic, and brewed just right, I will return whenever I am in town. I was in town for a few days, and I tried several places. The Mean Bean is the best coffee within 50+ miles of Zion National Park. Whether you want some good local info or just the best coffee in town, this is the place to go.

You guys are the BEST...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/09/09
Traveled XC from the east coast for 7 weeks. Camped in Zion NP but had burritoes and panninis every morning. My partners were coffee drinkers and raved about the java. Bought a mug and T shirt to remember this unique place. Ryan and Ticia are great hosts. Will return there again on my next trip...you won't be disappointed.

BEST EVER!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/27/07
Where can you go and be treated like you are an old friend. Well, The Mean Bean Coffe House in Springdale Utah. It was the best coffee house my wife and I have ever been in. Laid back, great drinks, and the employees were down to eart and very, very friendly. Out of our entire west experience we will always remember the Mean Bean. We purchased a few Mean Bean mugs to remember the experience. Zion National Park was great and wow, we want to return and do some backcountry camping. Nice little place away from the world and race....Try Kolab Canyons, northern area on Zion off Interstate 15. Well worth the hour drive from Springdale. Less crowded and wow!!!!!

A one of a kind coffee shop!
By DB, 06/23/05
My wife and I were on our way to Mexico and needed a fix of good coffee. Having had some bad luck with coffee in towns that see a lot of visitors we were a bit nervous but the place looked cool and clearly leaned to the left politically so we decided to give it a shot. Joe is probably the coolest peddler of coffee I have ever met and I have met many! The Mean Bean is one of my favorite coffee shops in the west. Joe seems to know nearly everyone who comes through his door. If you find yourself in Zion and value good coffee, The Mean Bean is heaven!

Seattle inspired coffee
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/06/05
The coffee at the Mean-Bean is good. Joe knows how to make a good Latte. He told me that he has taken a seminar from the coffee master -- the owner of Seattle's one and only Vivaces. My wife and I have visted Zion NP and Springdale for serveral years now. We enjoy the canyoneering, hiking and mountain bike activities in the area so much we were considering moving there. However, we are from the Seattle area, so coffee is part of our religion. After enjoying the hospitality of Joe along with a darn good latte, we knew we should make Springdale our new home. Our house is now under construction using the same builder Joe used to expand his coffee shop. We'll be frequenting the Mean Bean by the summer of 2005.

Awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/04
The hamlet on the edge of Zion National Park. Springdale, has (surprisingly) a good half dozen coffee shops and places with espresso (and thankfully, no Starbucks). This recently-remodeled hole-in-the-wall had the most choices, including organic coffees and soy milks, along with the rest of your coffee choices. The difference here is the people. One of the owners, Joe, engages everyone in conversation and a laugh is guaranteed. Worth the stop, and a short walk from the Zion campground or directly in front of the shuttle stop

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/31/04
Come October my wife and I plan on doing some serious hiking in God's country (Zion) but before our days begin it's a must to start out our day with a cup of Mean Bean Java! Love the name and love the coffee!

The Mean Bean Rules
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/04
Not a bad word to say about this classy coffee house. Congenial owner serves you and is liberal with friendly banter and local information. This guy knows everybody in town; his shop is a real joy.
