BEST little coffee shop in 100 miles
By Steve, 08/26/09
After traveling on an extented summer holiday, I was getting sick and tired of crappy coffee. No apologies -- I'm a coffee snob. But then to my delight and salvation, as invested a few exhausing days into Zion National Park, a local recommended The Mean Bean as the place to be if you worship the bean.
This place makes a good cup of coffee. The price is right (not that it matters) and it is all fair trade + organic, etc. All this matters alot, but there is more thant makes this little local hole-in-the-wall shop a true treasure. Good coffee is an art, and it takes good people to make good art.
The owners have been in town and making coffee for a long time. They are a well spring of not only that dark ambrosiac beverage of the bean, but alos the thick stuff of local lore. Over cups of god-like morning glory they freely offered suggestions of 'secret' back-country hiking trails where neigh a single summer Zion tourist would be sighted. Later (when I had earned my exhaustion) there were recommendations for the best art galleries in town.
If all you want is a REALLY GOOD cup of coffee, this is the place to be. If you are looking for something more, then you really do not want to miss this local treasure
