Plain Sadness
By ,
When i visited this zoo at the age of 10 i thought this zoo was decent and fun but now seven years later its gone trashy and lazy the animals are kept in areas not suited for, for example the lions have about a 12 by 12 area while the wild hogs and ostriches have a huge plain to themselves while it should be splitted equally still seperating them and as we reached the end we saw the red fox in the corner where no onme was noticing it all alone trembling as it was just about to die it felt so sad just looking at it suffer, i mean arent they suppose to check up on every animal and at least feed it. when we were about to leave i saw an employee talking to a man and i quickly just told him about the fox and the man gave me a scared look and just started running towards the red foxes area. I know thise zoo can be shut down for something like that but i just want to warn people to make sure these animals are being treated right and to advise the employees if something is wrong, even though they are not in their natural habitat they deserve to be in an environment that makes them feel like they are and not to be treated in such inhumane situations.

Fun for everybody
By ,
The zoo has lots of different animals, some you can't see just anywhere. It's a nice place to have fun and enjoy a day with the family. It's kept clean and the habitats are well designed.

Fun but expensive
By ,
Mr Caldwell was a great man who loved children. He left money to keep his zoo available to all children. A few yrs after he died a nephew decided to charge. No longer is it a place where families can visit together. A place where you can take relatives when they come to down. Frequent visits are gone for the middle class. But if you have the money and there are just two of you it is a wonderful place

I will never go back!

The zoo was trashy and dated. I didn't care for the mice in the cafe either! The employees acted like they prefered that you were somewhere else.

FUN!
By ,
i really love this zoo! we like to go a few times a year. it is very very clean, all the animals are happy and healthy. my kids absolutely love it. the cost is a little steep, but the wild bird walk about is almost worth it in its self. you get to walk around a bunch of wild birds and feed them. i think that was the kids favorite part. i love it. we are actually ganna take a lil trip there today, and i cant wait!!

worth visiting
By ,
It's a nice little zoo in a small town. Worth seeing if you like zoos. We've been to zoos all over the country, so to compare, it just doesn't. A few years ago, it was free to get in the place, and it was perfect for that. They have regularly added to their admission fees, so that it is now about as much to visit as the really nice larger zoos in the 'big city'. Luckily, they still have free parking, but I imagine that will change too.

Fun stop
By ,
Good zoo, nice assortment of animals. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. I will definitely be coming back there. Would definitely recommend it if you find yourself in Tyler, TX. The tickets are pretty affordable, but not the best.

From a Local

The zoo is great. However, expect a lot of walking. Most of the walking will be done going uphill, and given the Texas heat, bring plenty of water and hydration because there is only one vending area. The landscaping is pretty, and it's worth the visit.

For my two kids...
By ,
We LOVED it! My 5 year old didn't want to leave and I was actually able to keep my 1 year-old in the stroller! He was calm and didn't fuss. Great for the family...I like that the walk didn't web out like most places. You were able to walk and continue on through the end without having to turn back around to find another animal on a different route! The cafe offered a variety of food and snacks without getting too expensive as well. Cost? Could have been a little less steep. $7 for 13 and up, $4.50 for 3-12, 2 and under is free, and I THINK seniors 55 and older were around $5.50. Overall though, we had a blast! We will go back. Again and again!

Great Little Zoo
By ,
I live in Tyler and my family visits this zoo at least twice a year. Its not a huge zoo which is good on hot days because you don't really get worn out. It doesn't take ALL day to see everything which is nice. Its a very clean zoo and has a lot of nice open exibits. My 3 year old son absolutely LOVES the wild bird walk-about where you can feed the birds! We have fun but my camera always seems to run out of batteries when I go here so I have yet to get any good pictures :( Overall, probably the best thing you are going to find to do in Tyler!
