Green Acres Bowl
There's something for the whole family to do at this 32 lane bowling center that offers bumper bowling, league bowling, pizza rent-a-lanes, and delightful birthday parties. A fully stocked pro shop is on site.
My daughter loves to have parties at the bowling alley. Unfortunately, every year there have been problems with the lanes. This year, they had to fix the lane because there were issues with the balls not returning. It took a while for them to get it together. Then the kiddos got back to their party, only for it to happen again. The guy in charge with (a big guy with a full beard) was extremely inconsiderate. He only wanted to remedy the situation by giving us 30 min of extra bowling time when it took that long if not longer to fix the problem. He said, "Look, I've been doing this for years, and there is no way that it took longer than 30 min to get those lanes fixed!" He could care less about what we had been going through, he just wanted to give us a hard time. He succeeded! It was so inconvenient having to sit around and wait in the middle of your party. The kids were getting sick of it! I was as well. Then, when the kids got back to bowling, the lanes were turned off in their faces! I went to the same guy who said, "I told them to move to new lanes." If that was the case, then why didn't you shut the lanes off right away, versus letting the kids continue to bowl, and shut them off in the middle of trying to have fun!!!!! Needless to say, the party was ruined! I cut the kids some cake, and we got the heck out of their! As I was cutting the cake the same guy came over and said, "I've had a long day. A lot of people have been calling in, and I have been running on empty all day. I'm going to give you tickets for some free games." I don't care what kind of day he was having! You can not let your emotions get in the way of how you treat good-paying customers. Think of what the world would be like if we all did that!!!! I know....scary thought. My recommendation, save your time and your money!
Outside looks run down, and inside is just as bad! The shoes they gave us were holey and the score screens are very dim! The bowling balls are chipped and cracked and dirty looking! I got my money back and won't be returning! Only good thing I can say is that it is none smoking!
Lance you are so lucky. I bowl on a league at Green Acres Bowl every week and have for years. Every week there is a problem with the machines, it may not be the same lane, but each week one or two lanes hold us up... As a paying league bowler , I am tired of it.. It would be nice if the CITY would let someone come in and give Green Acres some compition.
I've only bowled here for travel league, but had to put my two cents in after reading these silly reviews. The people who wrote these reviews haven't bowled for many years or has been living in a cave for about 20 years. There is absolutely nothing different from this center, than any other in the United States. Good bowling center management ended approx 15-20 years ago. Most could give a damn about the patrons or the conditions. As for the smoking, well, if you don't like it go somewhere else. This was written by someone who has bowled in 48 states. It's like this everywhere grin and bear it.
This establishment has steadily been going downhill since the original manager Bob Reed left back in the late 1970s. I rarely go this place anymore. Bob was a gem of a manager, a great friendly guy who brought many renovations to the alley. The owners and managers since then have been so arrogant and sloppy. Tyler needs a new alley managed by the likes of Bob, and I'm sure that competition would close this establishment in no time! Don't waste your time or money here.
I am at this establishment at least 2 days a week. Since Mr. Williams has left , the place has become a total wreck. The people taking care of the machines do not have the foggest idea of what they are doing. The manager, well what can you say. the management stinks as well as the desk help. Makes me wonder if the owner is even concern that the emplyees are killing his business. Ask him and he will give you this far off the wall tale about how hard they are working to remdey the problems. This has been going on since his father died and still nothing has been done to help his clientail. There are some very good bowlers in Green Acres and now the travel league has abandoned the house because of problems and the staff. My suggestion would be to fire everyone and hire someone who cares. The only place in this house you can get decent service is in the snack bar. That use to be terrible but now they have someone who is customer oriented. If Mr Goldsmith does not get off his rear and get some management in this place that care; I will give them one and maybe two more years of existing. It is miserable to go bowling and have nothing but trouble while trying to enjoy your evening. If you can not fix it then replace it. When I go bowl, I feel more as if I am being totured than enjoying myself. As I have stated, if nothing else; fire the management , staff, and hire all new people to help bring the business back to standards.
Let me start off by saying something positive. The smoking ban in Tyler has done a great job of making your stay at the bowling alley more enjoyable. But the problem it created is when you have trouble with your lane, the only person at the desk just happens to be outside smoking and there is no one left attending the counter to help you. This seems to happen about every thirty minutes or so, even during league play. Green Acres Bowling Center is extremely fortunate they are the only bowling center around or they would not still be in business.
The customer service here is just plain bad! I went to this place with my church group yesterday. One of our church leaders made reservations over two weeks ago however when we got there another organization had booked the entire complex. The entire thing!! Although the center had prior obligations not only to us but serveral other customers that were suprised when they showed up to a closed bowling center. Basically they sold out to the highest bidder. And to add insult to injury they were very rude and disrespectful to our church leader when she politely protested their questionable business pratices. One of the workers responded to her by saying, "you'll get over it." They wouldn't attempt any type of compromise. Their response to us was very cold.
