Cabins at South Sulphur, Cooper Lake State Park
By ,
We stayed in Cabin #13, which several of the rangers noted as their favorite due to view and position back from the others. When we arrived the cabin was exceptionally clean and tidy. We found the cabin had plenty of room for 2 adults, The bathroom was very large, only complaint there was the towels are rough and thin (bring your own if that matters to you). Couch was comfortable. There is a single bedroom with two queen beds, linens were nice, two extra blankets provided, and there was a small open armoire with plenty of room to allow us to unpack. We stayed for a week to fish. The back porch had door from living room and the bedroom. Nice size picnic table and charcoal grill. Behind the cabin was a fire ring on the walk to the lake, and when we arrived there was a small set of cut firewood waiting to be used. The rangers were extremely nice and very helpful the entire stay. The lake water level was down while we were there, but the views were all still pleasant and two of the three fishing piers were still serviceable. Each pier area has lighted fish cleaning areas as well, and bathroom facilities near all the piers. We did not hike so cannot answer as to the trails but enjoyed ourselves fishing all week. The park was very very quiet, and well maintained overall. We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin.

great place to get away from the city
By ,
Very isolated and quite. I cant remember the last time I stayed at a State Park where there was absolutely no road noise at night (or during the day for that matter). Maybe Colorado Bend or Enchanted Rock. But for one close to the DFW metroplex this is a good choice. I guess it is far enough off the beaten path and not close to any roads. FM 3505 is the park road going into the park and it dead ends in the park. Probably was a through road before the lake was built. Also great for star gazing since it's far from any city lights. Park staff was friendly and helpful. I stayed in the walk in area and the girl who checked me in recommended a site since I hadn't been there before. She told me if I wanted to change sites (they weren't crowded since I went mid-week) I could call her back on my cell phone and tell her which one I wanted.

NOT good
By ,
the place looks good but the people that work there arnt that nice. we stayed but they dont like noise. the lake is drying and the one of our cabins had tons of ants which we talked to someone who works there and they said that it wasnt their problem. we had planned to stay 3 days, but we didnt like it so we left. The main reason we went was so have a good time since i live in downtown dallas, But i didnt. last time im going to cooper lake state park.

we love the park
By ,
We love this park and the people that work there are wonderful and very helpful. We love this park and are planing on going back this weekend the and again in April and again in July. The camping is wonderful and the only thing I can think of that may need to change would be that a stand up grill be at the sights, other than that nothing its a great place to go and not for from home. The grandkids loved it as well.

I'ma headin' there again, soon!
By ,
There's so much to say about this far away place, not so far from home. All of my visits to Cooper Lake have been truly wonderful. From the sun and fun on the beach, to relaxing by the campfire, with friends, while being captivated by the bright stars in the sky at night. The thing i enjoy best, is that you feel as if you're so far away from the world when you're out here. It's truly a place to come when you need to relax, yet don't want to spend alot of money. I would recommend Cooper Lake to anyone who was looking for the ultimate fishing, swimming, hiking, camping, all around family and friends fun place! I'll be going back in just over a month...lol! Hope to see you there.
