Texas Water Safari, San Marcos

This year's was tougher than most with low water and high temperatures. To make matters worse as we put on our spray skirt for the bay crossing there were about 10 alligators hanging around watching us. Regardless of the river levels, or the weather, or how sick you might get, or the hallucinations, it's a true accomplisment to finish. There is no greater feeling to me thatn rounding the point and seeing Seadrift and hte finish line about two miles ahead, Seadrfit is a small coastal town, but from that viewpoint it looks like El Dorado.

I have done the Texas Water Safari but my husband and father-in-law do every year and I am the Team Captain. You can only give them water and ice and that is it. It is a 260 mile race. It is fun adn you meet so many wonderful people every year. If you like adventure and don't mind snakes, alligators, and being dirty and starving for 4 days then I recommend it. It is great fun.
