When we moved to McKinney as newlyweds, my husband and I were looking for a church somewhat traditional (i.e., no colored stage lights) where we could learn more about the Bible and connect with other believers. On the morning of our first visit, we were welcomed by the greeters and even by the pastor (though the church is not small), who went to get a cup of coffee for my husband. They placed us in a multi-aged class called Faith Connections for which one of the associate pastors serves as teacher, providing scholarly perspectives on the books of the Bible he led us through. With their laughter, prayer support, insights, and care, we felt at home.
FUMC provides services with traditional liturgy and a contemporary service. Many Bible study groups are formed by members of the same stage of life, but others--like our class--have a nice blend of members. (Often, multi-aged classes are, in fact, senior adult classes.) There are also many activities and groups that bring members together, such as the choir I joined for a while. Overall, the FUMC family impressed us with their faith, their willingness to consider the tough questions, and their nonjudgmental view of others. The love of God is there.
This is the best church I have ever been to. I've known one of the pastors there for about 2 years and he is the best person you will ever hear a sermon from. He used to preach at a church in Prosper and he actually got an invatation to come preach at FUMC in McKinney and he accepted the offer. When he switched my family and I agreed that he was so good that we would start going to McKinney with him.
There's such a great atmosphere there too. There's something for EVERYONE in the family to do. Sunday school for all ages, family fum night, 2 types of services, game nights, chior, youth club, and alot more.
For Sunday school there's confirmation for 6th graders to join the church. In the middle of the year for confirmation you also get a mentor who is just a grown up who you can go to for advice and help.
There's family fun night once a month.
There's a traditional service and a Wellspring sevice that's more upbeat then the traditional.
There's a choir for almost every age group.
If you ever go to this church I promise you will never switch churches.
