The right place for us
When we moved to McKinney as newlyweds, my husband and I were looking for a church somewhat traditional (i.e., no colored stage lights) where we could learn more about the Bible and connect with other believers. On the morning of our first visit, we were welcomed by the greeters and even by the pastor (though the church is not small), who went to get a cup of coffee for my husband. They placed us in a multi-aged class called Faith Connections for which one of the associate pastors serves as teacher, providing scholarly perspectives on the books of the Bible he led us through. With their laughter, prayer support, insights, and care, we felt at home.
FUMC provides services with traditional liturgy and a contemporary service. Many Bible study groups are formed by members of the same stage of life, but others--like our class--have a nice blend of members. (Often, multi-aged classes are, in fact, senior adult classes.) There are also many activities and groups that bring members together, such as the choir I joined for a while. Overall, the FUMC family impressed us with their faith, their willingness to consider the tough questions, and their nonjudgmental view of others. The love of God is there.
