Apple Country At Hi-Plains Orchards, Idalou

A short trip from where we stayed in Lubbock, we truly enjoyed lazily walking through the myriad rows of several varieties of apples. We've enjoyed pick-your-own trips before, and this one as well. A rolling bin with comfortable handle was provided, but the grounds were a somewhat bumpy, so until the bin was a bit heavy, I just carried it. There is a well stocked gift shop with tourist standard items, but also in-the-shop produced pies and breads that are exceptional. Don't miss their version of the good old American Apple Pie. This big kid enjoyed it. I'm not sure 15 year olds would be as thrilled, but younger kids would delight. R. W. Midland, TX
