Chester Nimitz, Fleet Admiral in the Pacific during World War II, grew up in Fredericksburg and this museum complex is located in the old "Steamboat Hotel" once owned by his grandfather. The museum is the only institution in the United States which is dedicated exclusively to telling the story of Nimitz and World War II and the complex is located on nine acres which includes a variety of historic buildings.

Memorial Day is Awesome
By Jane, 05/15/06
The Japanese Garden with a Japanese house at the back of the museum was a nice treat. It was built by people from Japan as a gift to the museum. We also watched a re-enactment of Japanese assault during the war and the teenagers with us loved it. It is an important part of our history and this museum does really well in preserving that and showing it to the world. I wish more people would visit the place because it is really worth the trip to Fredericksburg.
