My Favorite State Park!
We just got back from a 4 night tent camping trip in the park. Wow, this park is wonderful. The campsite we had (#81) backed up to Keesey Creek and felt secluded. The wildlife watching is spectacular- javelina, mule deer, turkey, tons of birds and unfortunately skunks. The skunks do visit your campsite nightly, so cook early and keep the lights low.
The bathrooms were in good condition for a state park, although getting hot water is tricky. It is there, you just have to play with the shower controls to get it.
The water set up for the water only sites is weird, you don't always have water. This means you have to go meet other campers, not so bad.
Skyline drive is great for looking out over the Limpia Canyon and stargazing. We hiked from the trail by our campsite around to the Lodge, a really great hike and view. Drive or bike the scenic loop outside the park for great animal watching and views.
The Black Bear Restuarant is great for breakfast and very reasonable. The staff at the camp office, Indian Lodge shop and the Black Bear are very friendly, some of the best we have met. We will make the long drive from Austin back!
