One of my favorite places to go
When my son was small and we lived in Corpus Christi, we'd go on weekdays when there weren't as many people. I'd instantly relax in the dark cool of the tank rooms. I guess it was my "zen". The contrasting colors of the fish, the ability to just sit and chill...it was just one of my most favorite places to go.
I no longer live there and my son is a lot older now, but I still have family there. I buy them a membership every year so they have to take me when I go down to visit! I think a membership is just the way to go if you are able to go a few times or if you have family with small kids that can use it.
I guess it can seem expensive, but in the scheme of things, it's really not when you understand what all it is that they do. Plus, it's just not cheap to keep up a place like that.
It's simply beautiful and relaxing. You have to be someone that can appreciate it I guess. My husband could take it or leave it, but for me, I could go all the time. My favorite area is the jellyfish. I've never seen another exhibit like it. The kids always love the otters.
I regret that we aren't closer and that my son won't be able to participate in the learning & volunteer programs they offer to teens. Check out the website, they offer a ton of things that not everyone realizes, including a safe haven for abandoned/stranded/injured/beached wildlife.
